
The AAA Death Valley Scorpions kicked off the 1st sim going 6-2 in the Rupert Horn Memorial League. The Scorps swept the South Bend Proudest Monkeys (Madison), split a two-game series with the San Francisco Doves (Brooklyn) and won a three-game series over the Mars Martians (Valencia).
Hitters-
Hawaii’s #1 Prospect (#16 BBA) LF Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez played in all 8 games and was 8 for 34 with a double and a homer. He drove in a run, scored 6 runs, walked once, struck out 4 times and stole a base.
#3 (126) 3B Jorge Dodd had a least one hit in 7 of 8 games he played going 10 for 32 and slashed .313/.353/.531. He tallied 4 doubles and a homer while walking twice and fanning 5 times. He scored 7 runs and drove in 9.
#12 (291) 1B Lorenzo Holloway had a hit in all 7 games he took the field. He was 13 for 28 good for a slash line of .393/.452/.679 and a 1.130 OPS. He had a couple of doubles and a couple of homers to drive in 8 runs while scoring 6.
Holloway and Dodd are ready but will get some at bats in AAA before their call up to Hawaii sometime after May.
Pitchers-
#2 (71) RP Ho-jum Yi made three appearances earning a win and a hold in 2.2 innings. He’s allowed two hits, walked one and struck out two with a 1.13 WHIP.
#4 (147) RP Jacinto ‘Mad Hatter’ Gallegos made two appearances and pitched a total of 3.1 innings allowing four hits (2 homers). He struck out three and has an early 5.40 ERA.
The AA Carson City Gamblers began the season 4-5 in the Warren Cox League. The Gamblers lost a four-game series to the High Point Hammers (NSH), won a three-game series against the Kamloops Moops and are tied with the Trois-Rivieres Salmon Kings (Jax) in their ongoing series.
Hitters-
#11 (275) LF Antonio Gonzalez was 11 for 31 and slashed .355/.364/.774 with a 1.138 OPS. He hit 4 doubles and three homers while working a walk. He struck times, scored 7 runs and drove in 10.
#18 (443) 1B Antonio Gomez was 2 for 10 with a double and scored a run while striking out three times.
Pitchers-
#5 (154) RP Antonio Perez made 4 appearances for the Gamblers with one terrible result before getting the better of AA level hitters. He gave up four runs in 1. 1 innings in his 1st appearance of the season but pitched 3.1 scoreless innings from then on. He has fanned 4 batters and walked 3. He sports a bloated 7.71 ERA, but his FIP is 3.76 and should level out later in the season.
#19 (450) RP Cale Cote has also made 4 appearances earning a win and a hold in 7 innings of work. He fanned 8 and walked two while giving up 8 hits with a run. He has a 1.29 ERA and a 2.12 FIP.
The A ball Medford Mules went 4-5 in the Charley Pegler League. The Mules won a four-game series against the Tombstone Geckos (LBC), lost a three-games series to the Pahrump Ranchers (LV) and are down 2-0 to the Springdale Roosters (NSH) in their four-game series.
Hitters-
LF Charlie Fitzgerald has struggled since he was drafted by Hawaii in the 2nd round in 2059. He received some time in spring training this season and was promoted to Medford afterwards. He has played all 9 games so far for Medford and has put up a slash line of .300/.475/.633 with a 1.108 OPS. Has a double and three homers with 8 RBI and scored 6 runs. He has drawn 10 walks and fanned 11 times. It appears his incredible eye potential and woeful AvK is real.
