The Hawaii Tropics acquire 24 year old second baseman Carlos Shumann from the Valencia Stars for AA pitcher Dave Furman and $5,000,000.
Schumann will take over second base from Na’il bin Hakim and play beside former second baseman Julian Rivera who has been moved to short. Schumann is a 9 range 7 error 7 TDP defender to go along with offensive ratings of 8/6/3/4/8. He’s going to put the ball into play but not walk much and play solid defense for the Trops.
Hawaii GM Jim Walker said, “Schumann is a huge upgrade over bin Hakim. The deal with Valencia went smoothly as @DugoutDesperado knew what he needed and haggled like a pro. It’s all about the haggle! But seriously, we hope that some more playing time and the devlab improves Schumann over time.”
The move at the very least provides the Stars some much needed cash and a player while Hawaii has a better competitive team on the field.

Thanks for the quick deal

I felt like I was dealing with Ray Zalinsky from Tommy Boy.

Cool trade. I think in a vacuum Valencia did better because their guy still has all of his team control and already looks like a viable BBA pitcher. But it’s difficult to evaluate these established middle infielder trades because there are so few.

I think I kind of stifled Schumann a little bit since I was revolving him with Shed and Conklin. My gut tells me as a full time guy he could be a 2 WARish type of guy. OOTP also says he is the one keeping my clubhouse together. I think this year is going to be a cluster in the clubhouse regardless who is in charge.

Sometimes you just have to pounce on a deal and hope ot works for you. I like this trade for Hawaii.
