The Hawaii Tropics announce the signing of Jesus Rios to a one-year deal worth $4,000,000. Rios played in Hawaii in 2053 and ’54 with mixed results as he made 83 appearances going 7-4 with a 4.30 ERA. After leaving Hawaii, he had some success in Chicago but left the Black Sox for another free agent deal. That deal never appeared as he sat out the 2058 season leading to him leaving CAA to sign on with Bott Scoras. He signed on with Jacksonville for the Zombie experience. He resurrected his career with the ‘Living Dead’ and is now returning to Hawaii to hopefully give the Trops some help.
He is a 5/6/7/6/8/7 sidearm pitcher that sits around 93-95 on the gun and will induce grounders. He throws a fastball (6) and a slider (7) making him effective against righties. Righties struggle to hit for power off him, but he is just average against lefties. He has a career FIP- 73 against righties but a 113 FIP- against lefties.
GM Jim Walker said, “Rios gives us some experience near the back of the bullpen on a relatively cheap deal.”
