Long Beach pitching holds the Tropics offense to just four hits and shutout the Hawaii in the series opener at the ‘Vinnie’. Wilson Perez needed just 52 pitches to go 5.1 innings against the Trops. He gave up just two hits and picked up his 3rd win of the season. Hawaii starter Jose Ordonez took the loss after giving up two runs on six hits and a walk with five Ks. The bullpen shut the Surfers down for four innings with Curt Bott throwing a clean inning.



Long Beach 4 Hawaii 2- Sunday, September 25, 2061

Attendance- 52,223 at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium


Hawaii starter Barney Lindsey gave up two homers out of six hits and four runs in 6.1 innings in another loss. He walked two and struck out five as he falls for the 11th time this season.

Trops rookie Eric Owens was 2 for 4 with a solo homer (19) in the 7th inning. Angelo Lucchesi was 1 for 4 with an RBI double (31) that scored Carlos Sanchez who had also doubled (24).



Long Beach 5 Hawaii 1- Monday, September 26, 2061

WP- Slawomir Trzcinski (17-5)

LP- Niegloslaw Woywitka (9-11)

Attendance- 46,212 at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium


The Long Beach offense keeps up the pressure while their pitching staff stifles Hawaii’s hitters to take their 3rd in a row. Hawaii starter Niegloslaw Woywitka wasn’t horrible but wasn’t great but allowed three runs on four hits with a walk in 5.1 innings. He fanned six batters but falls to 9-11.

Jeff Appleton was 1 for 3 doubled (16) and drove in Eric Owens with the Trops only run.



Hawaii 5 Long Beach 3- Tuesday, September 27, 2061

WP- Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds (6-11)

LP- Tulon Koruturk (7-2)

Attendance- 53,293 at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium


The Hawaii Tropics were headed for a sweep by the Long Beach Surfers when rookie Eric Owens flipped the script with a pinch hit two-run homer (20) in the top of the 9th.

Troy Reynolds pitched a scoreless 8th inning and came back out for the bottom of the 9th. He gave up just a hit but secured the win in his rumored final game as a Tropic.

Eric Owens played in 52 games and had 190 at bats slashing .311/.357/.711. He hits 20 homers with 49 RBI along with 12 doubles and two triples. He missed three months from May to August that cost him a shot at Rookie of the Year.



Long Beach wins the series 3-1.

I like the title. :) We typically just do cannonballs in Valencia. No form or technique required.
