The Valencia Stars and Hawaii Tropics put on a showcase of bad offense, but reliever Troy Reynolds gives up the walk-off run to make the Stars winners. Niegloslaw Woywitka matched Juan ‘Trojan’ Garcia pitch for pitch as he gave up just a run on three hits and three walks in 6.2 innings. Garcia pitched 6.1 scoreless innings giving up three hits.
The Tropics scored their only run on a solo homer (14) by Jeff Appleton in the 7th inning that tied the game up 1-1.

Hawaii starter Semih Gurani pitches his best game of the season, and the offense chases the Star’s #1 starter Luis Gonzalez in the 2nd inning to even the season 1-1. Gurani gave up just three hits in 8 shutout innings while striking out two batters to pick up his 7th win.
Vincente Mendez was 2 for 3 with three RBI and scored a run to lead the charge. Jeff Appleton was 1 for 3 with two walks, two ribbies and scored a run. Mitch Wareham was 1 for 4 with a walk and a two-run homer (13) in the 7th inning. Julian Rivera was 2 for 5 with a solo homer (4) in the 5th inning.

The Stars pitching brings the Tropics offense back down to earth with an extra inning one run win. Valencia starter and one-time Hawaii pitcher Peter Dean shutout the Trops on five hits over 7 innings. He was followed by another ex-Tropic Tomad Franco with two clean innings.
For Hawaii, Gerardo Rea threw 5.1 scoreless innings allowing three hits with four Ks. Troy Reynolds took his 2nd loss of the series allowing the walk off, unearned run.

The Stars finish off the Tropics with some solid pitching to stifle the Hawaii offense and win the series. Vincente Mendez was 1 for 4 with a double (26), scored a run and had an RBI while Jeff Appleton was 2 for 4 with a ribbie to give Hawaii some offense.
Jose Ordonez gave up two runs on four hits and three walks in 4.1 innings while striking out three. The Trops bullpen couldn’t match with Martin ‘Lumps’ Garcia giving up two runs on a two-run homer in two innings of work.
The Valencia Stars win the series 3-1.
Hawaii GM Jim Walker hasn’t spoken to the media often this season gave a short brief statement. He said, “This is how it’s been. Always one run short.”
