Hawaii Tropics farmhand Curt Bott is off to a hot start in Double A Carson City after having a successful stint in the Trops Development Lab. Bott improved his sinker better than anyone has anticipated and has used it to great effect in three starts this season.
In the season opener for Carson City against the High Point Hammers, Bott threw 90 pitches in 5.2 innings allowing a run on four hits and a walk while fanning 10 batters. In his start against the Kamloops Moops he pitched 7.2 shutout innings giving up three hits and walks none while striking out 8 batters to earn his 2nd win. Start #3 was against the Trois-Rivieries Salmon Kings where he pitched six innings allowing just four hits with a walk and 8 Ks to snag his 3rd win of the season.
His stats on the season are 3-0 with a 0.47 ERA and a 0.67 WHIP in 19.1 innings. He has given up 11 hits with just 1 HR and walking one batter while striking out 26 batters to post a 0.9 WAR. Bott is dominating right-handed hitters to the tune of a .111 Avg while lefties have fared a bit better with a .219 Avg. Lefties are grounding out at 50% rate while righties just 35% but the righties are striking out almost 40% of the time. 3 games and 19+ innings is a small sample size but it’s been a nice start for Bott.
