Hawaii GM Jim Walker was sitting in his office staring into space. Damn, the off season is boring! He looks down into the seating areas at ‘Iolani Palace to gauge the seat addition progress. Like watching paint dry.
“Cassie!”, he called.
“You rang?”, she said seductively.
“Don’t talk seductively. Gets my wife jealous. What do we have anything going on?”, he asked.
“Some young players have finished the new development lab.”, she said.
“Great. Send the guys up.”, he said.
About 10 minutes later, there was a knock and the door swung open. Hawaii Manager Rich Kerr, Bench Coach Rodrigo Galvan, Pitching Coach Anibal Aguirre and the rest of the coaching staff entered.
“Get some booze and pull up some chairs boys.”, commanded Walker.
After everyone was settled and the small talk ended, Walker began. “What results did the kids have?”
Kerr said, “It was not great. Lynn Avison did well making some baserunning improvement. We had him run the bases in different scenarios to see if the training worked and he looked like he knew what he was doing. He has high work ethic and adaptability FYI.”
Walker just nodded.
Kerr continued, “Jeff Appleton on the other hand was not so good. He also did the baserunning program and it proved to be a problem. He may have some hammy issues going forward. He’s a bit dense FYI.”
“Fucking great.”, Walker mumbled.
“Mark Benjamin was the same thing. Took a knock. He has good work ethic. Finally, was Antonio Gonzalez. He was trying to improve his LF defense.”
Just then, Rodrigo Galvan piped in, “He’s got four left feet.”
Walker grinned. “That bad? Haha. Ok, get those clowns to the trainer’s table and check ‘em over. We finally found a hitting coach for Carson City. Julio Acevedo.”
“Great!”, said Kerr, “He has managerial experience. Should be a good fit.”
“Thanks, guys.”
Everyone stood and left, leaving Walker alone in his office.
Development Lab. The only thing I’m developing is an ulcer. I long for boring.
