Long Time Tropics 3B Coach and retired Des Moines RF Christian Raines retires.
The Hawaii Tropics say goodbye to 3B Coach Christian Raines after 12 seasons in the coach’s box. He began his work with Hawaii in 2047 and remained a stalwart in the third base box until the 2058 season.
Raines said, “I’ve given 35+ years to this great game I love and the Brewster Baseball Association. Now, I need some rest.”
GM Jim Walker said of Raines, “We’re gonna miss his sense of humor and his knowledge. He made our catchers into great defenders and game callers.”
Raines played 8 seasons in the BBA with 7 of those in Des Moines. He hit 123 career homers and drove in 458 runs while slashing .254/.304/.434. He had 1.7 ZR in right and left field but struggled in his playing time in center with a -23.3 ZR.
The search for a new 3B coach has begun and it’s rumored they will be bringing in someone from outside the organization. Stay tuned!
