The Hawaii Tropics have retired number 4 for all time after Mike Campbell has retired from professional baseball. The 41-year-old completes an 18-year career in the BBA with 14 of those years in a Tropics uni. He hangs up the spikes as Hawaii’s all-time leader in Career WAR (48.9), Career Games (2096), Career At Bats (8089), Career Runs Scored (1238), Career Hits (2383), Career Total Bases (4373), Career Doubles (441), Career Homers (458), Career RBI (1419) and Career Walks (615).

Campbell’s all-time BBA totals are 3028 Hits, 545 doubles, 108 Triples and 577 HR. He drove in 1858 runs and scored 1551 runs. He drew 788 walks and struck out 1719 times while slashing .295/.347/538 for a Career OPS of .885, a 132 OPS+ and 63.3 WAR.

The 2045 and 2046 BBA seasons are considered the most consistent production of his career. He slashed .339/.393/.614in ’45 and .331/.372/.616 in ’46 putting up 6.5 WAR then 6.6 WAR. In those years he hit a combined 81 homers and drove in 235 runs. After an off year where he put up a 4.4 WAR with 28 bombs and 101 ribbies, he posted his final 6+ WAR season as he slashed .307/.356/.576 with 40 HR and 112 RBI. Those 40 HR were tied for the Frick League lead with Yellow Springs 1B Robert Chenowith and Louisville’s Lucio de la Cruz.

Campbell has earned 7 Players of the Week, 2 Batter of the Month, 1 Rookie of the Month and was selected to 4 All Star Games. He hit 16 career Grand Slams with one being a walk off Grand Salami against the Sacrament Mad Popes in August 2045. He had 3, 5-hit games, 3 game with 6+ RBI and 2 games with 3 homers. He made $216,518,456 in his 18-year career.

Hawaii GM Jim Walker said, “Mike Campbell showed up every day and gave it his all. His presence has been missed in Hawaii and he has agreed to return to the team in a coaching capacity. His 2nd career has begun, and he will be the only person allowed to ever wear the #4 in a Tropics uniform. He will eventually join Marquise Futon and Roy Hobbs, Jr in Hawaii’s Lei of Honor.”
