The struggling Tropics make their next stop in San Fernando for a four-game series against the Bears. San Fernando leads the all-time series 170-163 and is dominating the 2058 season series with a record of 5-1.

The Hawaii Tropics score two runs in the top of the 1st to give starter Elvin Hilliard a quick lead. Hilliard gives up a run in the bottom half of the inning but holds the lead but gets hammered in the bottom of the 2nd for six more runs and was chased from the game. Bears starter Ruben bin Majid al Din took over from there and shut down the Trops to give San Fernando the win.

San Fernando wins 9-2.

The Tropics even the series with an extra innings win over the Bears. Trops starter John Moore was efficient in his start going five scoreless innings allowing just two hits, walked one and fanned seven in a no decision. Utkan Gocek blew the save as he allowed an unearned run in the 9th but vultured the win to improve to 4-4 with 4 blown saves and a 2.91 ERA.

The Tropics scored the go ahead run on a sac fly by Quintin Trewartha that scored Felipe Hernandez. Phil Thompson come on in relief of Gocek after he walked the first batter he faced in the 10th. With a man on he struck out the next batter then induced a ground ball that should have been a double play but ended with everyone safe as Trewartha booted it. He took things into his own hands then with a K and a flyout to earn the save.

Hawaii wins 2-1.

The Tropics fall prey to the Bears as pitcher Elvin Hilliard was forced to play center. Hawaii Manager Rich Kerr said, “We’ve played now 8 extra-inning games this month totaling 33 extra innings. We have multiple outfielders and infielders too tired. Hilliard gave it a good shot but lost it in the end.”

Hawaii C Frank McMillan was 2 for 5 with a Grand Slam (16) and a walk. He drove in four and scored two runs to earn player of the game. Luis Estrada was 1 for 6 with a two-run homer (24) in the 5th inning.

San Fernando wins 8-7.

Hawaii Tropics lose the game and the series in the bottom of the 9th as reliever Phil Thompson gives up a walk-off three-run homer. The Trops had fallen behind 1-0 early but came back with a run in the 4th, two in the 5th and one more in the 6th to set up the 9th inning theatrics. Utbah ‘Crawdad Me’ bin Muta made the start going 4.2 innings allowing a run on four hits and two walks while striking out one. Quintin Trewartha was 1 for 4 with two ribbies. Felipe Hernandez hit a solo homer (15) in the 4th and Luis Estrada hit a solo homer (25) in the 6th.

San Fernando wins 5-4.

Bears win the series 3-1.
