The Tropics embark on a short, four-game road trip in Nashville to play the Bluebirds at Les Paul Field. Hawaii is traveling a long way to get their ass kicked.

Game 1- The Tropics scored a run in the 1st inning but Hawaii starter John Moore gave up three runs to the Bluebirds in the bottom of the inning. The Trops responded with three runs in the top of the 2nd to take the lead back. That would be the last lead they would have as the Bluebirds score two in the 5th and single runs in the 7th and 8th to pull away for the win.

Moore survived two innings and allowed just the three runs on four hits with two alks. He struck out five batters when he wasn’t giving up hits and runs. Utkan Gocek allowed a run on two hits and a walk with a K in two innings of work. Bill Phillips took the loss after allowing the go ahead run on a solo homer. He recorded just one out as he falls to 3-6 with a 4.14 ERA.

2B Adhyapayana Mehta was 2 for 5 with two doubles (16), scored a run and drove in two runs. 3B Mitch Wareham was 1 for 4 with a walk, scored a run and stole two bases (10). 1B Tomas Borges was 1 for 4 with a triple (5), walk and an RBI. SS Thomas Kramer was 2 for 4, scored a run and drove in a run.

Nashville wins 7-4.

Game 2- The Nashville Bluebirds continue to attack the Tropics early as they peck away at starter Gerardo Rea. Rea gave up four runs on five hits and three walks in 2.1 innings as he takes his 14th loss of the season. He struck out a batter and is now 1-14 with a 6.58 ERA. Rea disappeared after the game when we went to ask him for a comment.

The bullpen held up well as they allowed a run in 5.2 innings of relief of Rea. Bill Ritz threw two scoreless, Phil Thompson 2.2 scoreless and Luis Perez allowed the run in an inning.

Tomas Borges was 1 for 3 with a single that drove in Tommy Kramer and Bob Chastain with Hawaii’s two runs. Kramer was 1 for 4 and Chastain was 2 for 3 with a double (15).

Nashville wins 5-2.

Game 3- The Bluebirds offense cuts it loose while the Tropics roll up into a fetal position as Nashville flies away with another win. Bill Williams gave up a three-run homer along with three other hits while allowing five runs in the 2nd inning. He walked one and struck out three in three innings while throwing 60 pitches. He falls to 3-5 with a 6.35 ERA. Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds was also treated harshly by the Bluebirds lineup as he allowed three runs on five hits and a walk. He lasted just 1/3 of an inning before being mercifully removed. Bill Phillips worked two scoreless innings giving up a hit, a walk and struck out a batter.

Hawaii produced a single run when Bob Chastain hit a fielder’s choice ground out that scored Karunamaya Makarand. Makarand was 1 for 4 with a double (4) and took third on a wild pitch.

Nashville wins 9-1.

Game 4- Nashville DH Majd bin Nawaf singlehandedly beat the Tropics going 2 for 3 with a Grand Slam in the 5th inning and a two-run blast in the 7th. Hawaii starter Elvin Hilliard gave up the Grand Slam and allowed five runs in 4.1 innings. He gave up four hits, walked four and struck out three as he falls to 6-9 with a 4.60 ERA.

Hawaii DH Russ McHaney was 1 for 4 with a two-run homer (3) in the 8th inning. Tomas Borges was 2 for 5 with a triple (6), scored a run and stole a base. C Frank McMillan was 1 for 4, scored a run and drove in a run.

Nashville wins 8-3.

The Bluebirds sweep the four-game series.
