The Tropics host the Long Beach Surfers and look to extend their losing streak. The Surfers are the Pacific Division Leader and will surely extend their lead in Hawaii.

Game 1- The Surfers shutout the Tropics on seven hits while Hawaii pitching gives up three runs in the loss. Hawaii starter Gerardo Rea pitched three innings allowing a run on two hits and three walks. He struck out two batters as he falls to 1-10 with a 5.70 ERA. Manny Ortiz allowed a run on three hits and fanned two batters in 1.1 innings of relief. Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds pitched 1.2 innings and gave up a solo homer while also striking out a batter. Luis Perez took control of the game for Hawaii allowing just a hit in two innings of work with two Ks. Juan Martinez pitched a clean 9th with two strikeouts.

RF Carlos Sanchez was 3 for 4 with a double (14) and 2B Adhyapayana Mehta was 2 for 4 with a triple (3).

Long Beach wins 3-0.

Game 2- The Tropics are so bad they can’t take advantage of a declining Jay Hodge. The only thing that stopped Hodge was Hodge. He allowed a run in three hits in two innings before leaving with an injury. Hawaii then was given three gift errors by the Surfer’s defense but could only score two runs off those errors.

Starter Elvin Hilliard has had a roller coaster ride of a season. He gave up four runs on six hits in four innings to take the loss. He struck out four as he falls to 5-6 with a 4.41 ERA. Bill Williams relieved him in the 5th and gave up two runs on three hits and a walk in two innings. He struck out three batters.

The Trops offense did score three runs as Mehta was 1 for 3 with an RBI single. LF Bob Chastain was 2 for 3 with an RBI double (12) in the 2nd inning. CF Angelo Lucchesi was 1 for 3 with a walk, a double (11) and scored two runs.

Long Beach wins 7-3.

The Surfers sweep the two-game series.

GM Jim Walker told reporters, “We have 4 pitchers and an entire offense hitting well below expectations. Tomas Borges has given us some offense but too many guys are in slumps at one time. It’s frustrating.”
