The Tropics take a short road trip to Louisville for a three-game series against the Sluggers.
Game 1- The Tropics defense commits two errors to sabotage this Semih Gurani start as the Sluggers take the series opener. Second baseman Mitch Wareham booted a hard grounder that later scored on a three-run homer in the bottom of the 5th that caused the damage.
Gurani pitched five runs allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits while fanning six batters. Phil Thompson pitched an inning allowing no hits or runs, issues a walk and strike out a batter. Jesus Rios took the loss as he allowed a run on no hits and a couple of walks. He falls to 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA.
Wareham was 1 for 5 at the plate with a two-run triple in the 5th inning. Ramao ‘Massacre’ Saturnino was 2 for 3 with a couple of walks, stole a base, scored a run and drove in a run. Adam Backhouse was 1 for 5 with an RBI. Angelo Lucchesi was 2 for 4 with a triple and scored a run. Will Patterson was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Louisville wins 6-5.
Game 2- The Tropics pound out 8 extras base hits and score 12 runs as they even the series with the Sluggers. Pedro Huerta is on fire right now as he continues to make opposing pitchers pay for mistakes. Huerta was 3 for 5 with two doubles and a Grand Slam. He scored three runs and drove in four to earn Player of the Game. Ramao Saturnino was 2 for 4 with a double and a two-run homer. He also walked, scored three runs, and had two ribbies. Adam Backhouse was 2 for 4 with a double, scored a couple of runs and drove in a run. Mike Campbell was 1 for 5 with a 1st inning three-run homer. Will Patterson was 1 for 5 with a solo homer. Adhyapayana Mehta was 2 for 5, stole a base and score two runs.
Michael Kalil earned the win after going 6 1/3 innings allowing four runs on six hits and a walk. He struck out three as he improves to 4-5 with a 5.61 ERA. Daruna Maddukuri pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. He gave up two hits and a walk. Chih Kuang also pitched 1 1/3 scoreless and gave up three hits with a K.
Hawaii wins 12-4.
Game 3- Louisville pitchers combine to shutout the Tropics on seven hits as they take the rubber match. Ramao Sarurnino was 2 for 3 and Angelo Lucchesi was 2 for 4 to lead Tropics hitters.
Hawiai starter Austin George took a beating in this game after a nice start against Sacramento. He allowed seven runs on seven hits including four homers. He walked a batter and struck out three as he falls to 2-6 with a 5.54 ERA. Utkan Gocek threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings giving up a hit, walked one and struck out one. Angel Hernandez allowed a meaningless run late in the game, He pitched two innings and allowed that run on a solo homer with a walk and struck out three.
Louisville wins 8-0.
The Sluggers win the series 2-1.
