The Tropic News 2054.24
The Tropics return home from a 6-7 road trip and begin a six-game home stand with a three-game series against the Vancouver Mounties.
Game 1- The Trops score 11 runs through the first four innings and run away with the series opener. Hawaii catcher Frank McMillan blasted two homers in the win on a 2 for 3 day at the plate. He also walked, scored three runs, and drove in two. Mitch Wareham got the party going from the leadoff spot going 2 for 3 with a couple of doubles and a walk. He scored a run and drove in one. Adhyapayana Mehta was 1 for 4 with three ribbies. Adam Backhouse was 1 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Shafiq Zahir was 1 for 3 with a two-run homer, a sac fly and three RBI. Angelo Lucchesi was 1 for 3 with a walk and scored two runs. Thomas Kramer was a pest on the bases all day as he was 3 for 4 with three runs scored.
Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds earned another win after five innings allowing a couple of runs on four hits and a walk. He struck out four as he improves to 6-1 with a 2.54 ERA. Chih Kuang pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit, issue a walk and struck out a batter. Angel Hernandez threw 1 1/3 innings allowing just a hit with a K. Jesus Rios continued the scoreless run with a clean 9th.
Hawaii wins 12-2.
Game 2- The Hawaii offense scored two runs on the 1st and Semih Gurani and two relievers make those runs the only ones the Trops would need. Gurani allowed a run on five hits and fanned four as he improves to 6-3 with a 3.09 ERA in 6 2/3 innings. Bill Ritz finished the inning for Gurani before Phil Thompson came on for the two inning save. It was Thompson’s 7th save of the season as he also struck out a batter.
Ramao ‘Massacre’ Saturnino was 1 for 3 with a walk and scored a run on a Pedro Huerta two-run shot in the 1st.
Hawaii wins 2-1.
Game 3- The Mounties salvage a win in the series to avoid a sweep by Hawaii. Starter Michael Kalil struggled for the Trops allowing five runs on seven hits and a couple of walks in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four batters as he falls to 3-5 with a 5.60 ERA. Dominic Thompson pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing just two hits with two Ks. Bill Ritz allowed a run on three hits and a walk in two innings. He also fanned a batter.
Shafiq Zahir was 1 for 3 with a solo homer. Frank McMillan was 2 for 2 with a double, a walk and scored a run. Will Patterson was 2 for 3 with a two-run homer in the 2nd inning.
Vancouver wins 6-4.
Hawaii wins the series 2-1.
