The Tropics are on the final two stops of their long road trip. They make the next to last stop in Valencia for a four-game series against the Stars.

Game 1- The Tropics break a 4-4 tie on a solo homer by back-up catcher Katsumi Matsumoto as the Trops take the series opener. Matsumoto was 1 for 4 but the Tropics would not have been in that position without Will Patterson. Patterson was 3 for 4 with a two-run homer in the 6th inning. Mike Campbell was 2 for 5 with a two-run homer also in the 6th inning. Adam Backhouse was 2 for 5 and scored a run. Angelo Lucchesi was 2 for 3 and scored a run.

Austin George looked good at times and bad at others against Valencia hitters. He pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing four runs on six hits and a couple of walks while striking out a batter. Chih Kuang bounced back after some poor efforts with 1 1/3 scoreless innings with two Ks. Bill Ritz earned the win with two efficient innings. He threw 16 pitches and fanned two batters as he improves to 4-1 with a 2.61 ERA.

Hawaii wins 5-4.

Game 2- The Stars use two pitchers to shut down the Hawaii offense and even the series 1-1. Hawaii starter Terry Hansen wasn’t bad either as he pitched six innings allowing a run on four hits and a walk while he struck out five batters. Phil Thompson took the loss in relief as he allowed a run on two hits and a walk. He struck out three batters in two innings as he falls to 1-1 with a 1/16 ERA.

Frank McMillan was 1 for with a walk and scored a run after Thomas Kramer hit into a double play. Kramer, Backhouse, Lucchesi, Patterson, Pedro Huerta and Ramao ‘Massacre’ Saturnino all had hits for Hawaii.

Valencia wins 2-1.

Game 3- Hawaii starter Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds and two relievers combine to allow the Stars a run on six hits. Reynolds pitched five innings giving up just four hits and a walk with four Ks to earn the win. He improves to 5-1 with a 2.45 ERA. Juan Martinez pitched two hitless innings with two Ks for his 1st hold. Jesus Rios pitched two innings allowing a solo homer with a K.

Pedro Huerta remains on fire for Hawaii as he was 2 for 4 with a Grand Slam in the 8th inning. Mike Campbell was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Tommy Kramer was 1 for 4 with a solo blast in the 3rd inning. Backhouse was 1 for 4 and scored a run. Lucchesi was 1 for 3 with a double, a walk and scored a run.

Hawaii wins 7-1.

Game 4- Mike Campbell and Adam Backhouse combine to go 6 for 9, score five runs and drive in four as the Tropics take the four-game series. Backhouse was 3 for 5 with a three-run homer while Campbell was 3 for 4, scored a couple of runs and drove in one. Pedro Huerta was 1 for 5 with a two-run moon shot in the 3rd inning. Will Patterson was 1 for 3 with a double, a walk, scored a run and a ribbie. Kramer was 1 for 4 with a double and scored a run.

Semih Gurani threw 4 2/3 innings and 91 pitches as Stars batters had some patience. He allowed three runs on five hits and five walks while striking out two batters. Daruna Maddukuri earned the win with 1 2/3 innings of relief. He gave up a run on a hit with a K. He improves to 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA. Dominic Thompson made his first appearance of the serie s going 1 2/3 innings allowing just a hit. Chih Kuang put a bow on the win with a clean 9th inning and a K.
