The Tropics fly back to the west coast for a four-game series against the San Fernando Bears at Chico Bail Bonds Field.



Game 1- The Trops tie the game with a run in the top of the 9th, but the Bears walk it off with a two-out single that scored the game winner. Hawaii starter Austin George allowed three runs in the 1st inning but settled in and pitched 4 2/3 innings. He allowed the three runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out three in the no decision. Phil Thompson is having a great season so far. He pitched 2 1/3 innings against the Bears and allowed just a hit, walked a batter and fanned two. He lowered his ERA to 0.84. Jesus Rios gave up the run and took the loss after 1 2/3 innings of work. He did strike out three batters but falls to 1-1 with a 5.71 ERA.

Mitch Wareham was 2 for 4 with a walk and scored a run. Mike Campbell was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Will Patterson was 2 for 4 with a double and a solo homer. He scored two runs and drove in a run. Pedro Huerta was 2 for 4 with a ribbie.



San Fernando wins 4-3.



Game 2- The Tropics take a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 9th and lose again on a walk off. This time a two-run blast off of Hawaii reliever Bill Ritz. Ritz pitched just 1/3 of an inning alloing the two runs on two hits. He falls t9 3-1 with a 3.70 ERA. Terry Hansen had another start wasted after 6 1/3 innings of one-run baseball. He allowed two hits and walked a batter while fanning eight. Dominic Thompson pitched a scoreless 1 2/3 innings giving up just a hit.

Adam Backhouse was 1 for 4 with a 1st inning solo homer. Pedro Huerta was 2 for 3 with a walk and also had a 1st inning solo shot.



San Fernando wins 3-2.



Game 3- The Hawaii offense was get handled by the Bears pitching staff as the Trops get just four hits and walk four times. Hawaii starter Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds shut out the Bears for five innings allowing just two hits and walk a batter. He struck out seven in a no decision. Chih Kuang made an appearance for Hawaii throwing two innings and taking the loss. He gave up two runs on three hits and struck out two. He falls to 1-1 with a 5.87 ERA. Utkan Gocek was perfect in his inning and struck out a batters as he lowers his ERA to 0.57.

Frank McMillan had two of the four Hawaii hits. He was 2 for 4 with a walk. Karunamaya Makarand and Ramao ‘Massacre’ Saturnino
were 1 for 4.



San Fernando wins 2-0.



Game 4- Hawaii scores four runs in the top of the 9th to avoid being swept by the Bears. Adhyapayana Mehta broke the tie with a single that scored Al Garrett and Mitch Wareham. Mehta was 2 for 5 with a run scored and two ribbies. Adam Backhouse was 1 for 4 with a homer, sac fly, scored a run and drove in two runs. Garrett was 2 for 3 with a walk and scored a run. Thomas Kramer was 1 for 3 with a triple, scored a run and drove in a run. Wareham was 1 for 1 as a pinch hitter and scored a run.

Semih Gurani pitched four scoreless innings giving up three hits and issued two walks. He struck out a batter but exited the game with back spasms. Juan Martinez was mauled by the Bears allowing three runs on two hits and a walk while getting just one out. Bill Ritz followed Martinez and allowed a run on three hits with a K in two innings of work. Utkan Gocek earned the win with some solid relief. He allowed a hit, walked one and struck out two as he improves to 2-0 with a 0.51 ERA. Jesus Rios threw three pitches and earned the save.



Hawaii wins 7-4.



The Bears win the series 3-1.



GM Jim Walker said, “Campbell and Saturnino are scuffling right now. We need Backhouse to get hot again.”
