The Hawaii Tropics take a short road trip to Portland for a three-game series against the Lumberjacks.
Game 1- Hawaii starter Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds gives up just a run on four hits in 6 1/3 innings and slugger Mike Campbell goes 4 for 5 at the dish with a homer to lead the Tropics to a series opening win.
The Teddy Bear walked no one and fanned seven batters as he improves to 2-0 with a 3.92 ERA. Phil Thompson threw 2 2/3 innings of relief allowing a run on three hits.
Campbell drove in three runs and scored two runs. Mitch Wareham was 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Adhyapayana Mehta was 1 for 5 with a run scored. Thomas Kramer was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Katsumi Matsumoto was 1 for 3 with a walk and a solo homer.
Hawaii wins 6-2.
Game 2- The Tropics and Lumberjacks do all their scoring in the 9th inning, but Portland comes out on top with a walk off two-run homer. Hawaii starter Semih Gurani put up a bunch of zeroes for 8 1/3 innings but took the loss after surrendering the game winner. He gave up two runs on five hits while he struck out seven batters. He falls to 1-2 with a 2.89 ERA.
Ramao ‘Massacre’ Saturnino was 1 for 4 with a run scored on a Mike Campbell sac fly in the 9th. Adam Backhouse was 2 for 4 and Pedro Huerta was 3 for 4.
Portland wins 2-1.
Game 3- Portland takes advantage of two rare Hawaii errors to score six runs and topple Hawaii in the rubber game. The Lumberjacks took the lead for good in the 7th with a big three run inning.
Mike Campbell had a nice series as he was 1 for 4 with a solo homer in the 4th inning but committed an error at first. Al Garrett was 1 for 3 with a walk and a solo homer also in the 4th inning. Katsumi Matsumoto was 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored. Adam Backhouse was 1 for 4 with an RBI.
Michael Kalil pitched five innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk. He struck out five batters in a no decision. Angel Hernandez is having a terrible start to the 2054 season. He lost this game as he allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings of work. He struck out two batters and falls to 2-2 with an 8.53 ERA. Bill Ritz threw 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and issuing a walk while striking out two batters.
Portland wins 6-3.
The Lumberjacks win the series 2-1.
