The Tropics finish up their season series with Sacramento as they play a three-game series against the Mad Popes. Hawaii leads the season series 6-5.



Game 1- The Tropics score three-runs on Mad Popes starter Joe King and Hawaii pitchers get the job done as the home team takes the series opener. Hawaii starter Michael Kalil earned the win after allowing just a run on five hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings. He fanned five batters as he improves to 5-7 with a 4.29 ERA. Juan Cerda was good in relief as he pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and walking a batters as he earned his 7th save.

Mike Campbell was 2 for 4 with a double, a solo homer, a run scored and two ribbies. Al Garrett was 1 for 3 with a two RBI double in the 4th inning off of King. Rhys Brickell was 2 for 3 with a double, a walk and a run scored.



Hawaii wins 4-1.



Game 2- Hawaii pitchers allow 11 hits to the Mad Popes but allow just one run as the Trops take another game to go up 2-0 in the series. Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds shut out the Mad Popes in five innings giving up five hits while striking out two batters. Angel Hernandez pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits while fanning a couple of batters. Phil Thompson earned the win after allowing a run on two hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings of work. He improves to 2-1 with a 2.55 ERA. Jason Wellon earned his 4th save as he allowed just a hit in an inning of relief.

Rhys Brickell was 1 for 4 with a bases loaded double that drove in all three. Adhyapayana Mehta was 1 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Thomas Kramer was 2 for 3 with a triple and a run scored.



Hawaii wins 4-1.



Game 3- September call-up Shafiq Zahir hit two homers for Hawaii with the second homer giving the Trops a walk-off win. Zahir was 2 for 4 with two solo homers. After the game Zahir said, “Ramos threw me one of those crazy 100 mph fastballs. I was ready for it but still was a little late. It went out to right field like a rocket though.”

Hawaii starter Austin George pitched 5 1/3 innings and threw 85 pitches. He gave up four hits, walked two and fanned seven batters. Bill Ritz relieved George and pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing two hits while striking out three. Jesus Rios struck out the only hitter he faced before giving the ball to Alberto Castaneda. Castaneda allowed the game tying run in the top of the 9th to get tagged with a blown save. He pitched an inning and gave up two hits and the one run. He earned the win to improve to 3-7 with a 3.92 ERA.



Hawaii wins 2-1.



Hawaii sweeps the three-game series.



GM Jim Walker said, “We gave up 3 runs on 26 hits to the division leader. That is a good series win.”
