The Tropic News 2053.50
The Hawaii Tropics return home for their final home stand of the 2053 BBA season. The Trops host the Vancouver Mounties in a three-game series. Hawaii maintains a 7-4 season series lead.
Game 1- Hawaii third baseman Rhys Brickell drives in 5 of his team's 10 runs as the Trops win the series opener. Brickell was 2 for 3 with a walk and a three-run homer. He had some help from Adhyapayana Mehta and Frank McMillan. Mehta was 2 for 4 with a two-run homer and McMillan was 1 for 4 with a walk and a two-run homer.
Mike Campbell was 2 for 5 with a double and a couple of runs scored. Pedro Huerta was 1 for 2 with three walks and scored three runs.
Austin George earned his 8th win with a nice six inning effort. He allowed two runs on two hits and a couple of walks. He struck out seven batters and improves to 8-11 with a 4.10 ERA. Jason Wellon threw two innings of one hit baseball with two Ks. Alberto Castaneda pitched the 9th allowing a hit and fanned a batter.
Hawaii wins 10-2.
Game 2- The Mounties take advantage of a Hawaii fielding misstep and even the series 1-1. Hawaii starter Semih Gurani crawls to the finish line going 6 1/3 innings allowing five runs (four hits) on nine hits and a walk. He struck out two and falls to 10-12 with a 4.82 ERA. Dominic Thompson allowed a run on two hits with three Ks in 1 2/3 innings. Tye Whitford pitched a clean inning while fanning two batters.
Rhys Brickell was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Mike Campbell was 1 for 4 with a two-run homer in the 7th.
Vancouver wins 6-3.
Game 3- Vancouver knuckleballer Phil ‘Brewmeister’ Cole combined with two relievers to baffle Hawaii hitters and win the rubber match. Cole pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing Hawaii a run on seven hits and a walk. He struck out three on his way to the win.
Juan Martinez made the start for Hawaii and gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk. He struck out two batters but allowed four homers out of those six hits. He falls to 2-2 with a 3.66 ERA. Phil Thompson threw 2 1/3 innings and gave up a couple of runs on four hits with a K.
Frank McMillan was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Thomas Kramer was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Vancouver wins 8-1.
The Mounties win the series 2-1.
GM Jim Walker said, “Brickell was the only bright spot in this series.”
