The Trops finish their road trip in Portland playing a three-game series against the Lumberjacks. Hawaii holds a narrow 6-5 lead in the season series.



Game 1- Hawaii falls behind 3-0 to the Lumberjacks before scoring three runs to tie the game in the 5th. The Lumberjacks then break the 3-3 tie with the eventual game winning run off of Hawaii reliever Dominic Thompson.

Thompson pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing the one run on two hits while striking out a batter. He falls to 4-6 with a 4.70 ERA. Rookie Juan Martinez made the start for Hawaii pitching 3 1/3 innings. He gave up three runs on three hits while waling five batters. He fanned three batters in the no decision. Tye Whitford pitched 2 2/3 hitless innings and struck out four batters.

Katsumi Matsumoto was 1 for 3 with a three-run homer in the 5th inning. Al Garrett was 1 for 3 with a run scored. Thomas Kramer was 1 for 4 with a run scored.



Portland wins 4-3.



Game 2- Portland starter Chris Thompson dominated Hawaii batters for 7 1/3 innings, He gave up just a solo homer and walked two batters while fanning ten in the win.

Hawaii starter Michael Kalil was out matched by Thompson as Kalil made it just 4 2/3 innings allowing two runs on six hits and a walk. He struck out four batters but falls to 4-7 with a 4.42 ERA. Reliever Chih Kuang’s pitches had no movement on this day as he was pummeled for five runs on three hits while issuing three walks. He struck out a batter in an inning of work. Another Rookie, Phil Thompson, made an appearance for Hawaii. Thompson did much better with 2 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed just a hit and struck out a batter.

Mike Campbell was 1 for 4 with Hawaii’s only run on a solo homer in the 7th.



Portland wins 7-1.



Game 3- The Tropics avoid the series sweep as they score three runs in the 8th on a bases loaded double by Tommy Kramer. Kramer was 2 for 4 with three ribbies on the day. Angelo Lucchesi was 3 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Ramao ‘Massacre’ Saturnino was 2 for 5 with a double, a run scored and was caught stealing. Mike VCampbell was 1 for 4 with a walk, a double, a stolen base and an RBI.

Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds is making some progress as a starter late in the season. He pitched five innings allowing two runs (one earned) on a hit with two Ks. Juan Martinez earned the win with two hitless, scoreless innings of relief. He fanned two batters and improves to 7-7 with a 4.42 ERA. Angel Hernandez allowed two hits but kept the Lumberjacks scoreless and struck out three batters for his 12th hold. Alberto Castaneda earned a cheap one out save.



Hawaii wins 4-2.



Portland wins the series 2-1.



GM Jim Walker said, “It looks like we are just a bit short of the playoffs this season. We should turn the corner next season.”
