The Hawaii Tropics return home to play a two-game series against the Sacramento Mad Popes. The Mad Popes lead the season series 5-4.



Game 1- Hawaii rookie starter Juan Martinez combined with two relievers to shut out the Pacific Division leader in the series opener. Martinez was a mystery to Sacramento hitters as he allowed five hits, walked two and fanned four in five innings. He handed the ball over to Juan Cerda with the game still scoreless. Cerda threw 35 pitches in 2 2/3 innings allowing two hits and a walk. He earned the win to improve to 6-7 with a 4.90 ERA. Angel Hernandez came on for the save pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits, a walk and two Ks. He earned his 6th save of the season.

Hawaii scored a run on just two hits and drew four walks against Mad Popes pitching. Rookie Will Patterson was 0 for 1 with a walk and a sac fly RBI. Masaki ‘Icon’ Sato was 0 for 2 with a walk and a run scored.



Hawaii wins 1-0.



Game 2- The Trops score two runs in the 6th innings to tie the game 4-4 then get the go ahead run in the 7th and hold on to get the series sweep. Starter Michael Kalil struggled through six innings against the Mad Popes allowing four runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out one. Phil Thompson came on in relief of Kalil and threw 2 2/3 innings of shut out baseball. He allowed two hits and fanned two to earn the win. He improves to 1-1 with a 2.30 ERA. Jason Wellon got the save getting the last out.

Will Patterson was 2 for 4 with a solo homer and a double. Angelo Lucchesi was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Frank McMillan was 1 for 4 with a solo homer in the 4th inning. Rhys Brickell was 1 for 3 with a walk, a double and a run scored.



Hawaii wins 5-4.



The Tropics sweep the two-game series.
