The Tropics next host the Madison Wolves in a four-game series at ‘Iolani Palace. Hawaii leads the season series 3-1.

Game 1- The Wolves score four runs in the 8th inning to pull away and win the series opener. A perhaps overused Angel Hernandez gave up all four runs on three hits and a walk. He pitched 2/3 of an inning with a K as he falls to 4-3 with a 3.04 ERA.

Michael Kalil made the start for Hawaii pitching 5 2/3 innings allowing just a run on three hits and a walk while striking out five batters. Tye Whitford pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits with a K before Hernandez blew the game up.

At the plate, Adhyapayana Mehta was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Ramao ‘Massacre’ Saturnino was 1 for 2 with a run scored.

Madison wins 5-1.

Game 2- The Tropics even the series with a three-run 9th inning to walk it off. With the score tied 3-3 and runners at 2nd and 3rd, Shafiq Zahir stroked a first pitch single into left field that scored Mike Campbell with the game winning run.

Mehta was 1 for 4 with a run scored. Rhys Brickell was 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. C Frank McMillan was 1 for 3 with a solo homer in the 2nd inning. Quinton Lara pinch hit for McMillan late in the game and hit a two run double to tie the game up in the 9th.

‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds was the starter for Hawaii and he pitched four innings allowing two runs. He gave up six hits while striking out two batters. Alberto Castaneda threw two scoreless innings giving up three hits and a walk while striking out a batter. Juan Cerda followed that up with a scoreless inning giving up a hit, issuing a walk and striking out a batter. Dominic Thompson recorded two outs, walked one and fanned one. Juan Martinez earned the win in 2/3 of an inning. He struck out a batter as he improves to 2-0 with a 1.30 ERA.

Hawaii wins 4-3.

Game 3- Madison hitters were on Hawaii starter Austin George’s pitches early as they scored four runs on nine hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings. He threw 87 pitches and struck out four batters. He falls to 4-8 with a 4.28 ERA. Juan Martinez pitched two more innings giving up a hit with a walk and a K.

Ramao Saturnino was 3 for 5 with a single, double, triple and two runs scored. Pedro Huerta has been hard to get out lately. He was 2 for 3 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Masaki ‘Icon’ Sato was 1 for 2 with a double, a walk and two ribbies.

Madison wins 5-4.

Game 4- The Wolves commit three errors but 1B Chris Mann goes 4 for 5 to overcome those mistakes and earn his team a series win.

Hawaii starter Semih Gurani seems to be spinning his wheels at the moment. He lost another game after allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits and three walks. He struck out two in six innings of work. He falls to 7-6 with a 3.89 ERA.

Mehta was 2 for 5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Pedro Huerta was 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Masaki Sato was 1 for 3 with a walk and a solo homer. Mike Campbell was 1 for 1 with a pinch-hit solo homer in the 9th inning.

Madison wins 7-5.

Madison wins the series 3-1.

GM Jim Walker said, “This series was closer than it looks. We took 3 for 4 in Madison and they return the favor.”
