The Tropics finish their road trip with a two-game series against the Sacramento Mad Popes.
Game 1- The Mad Popes take advantage of two Hawaii errors to score three unearned runs and take the series opener. The big miscue was a fly ball that was misplayed by great fielding CF Angelo Lucchesi which resulted in the three unearned runs.
Michael Kalil took the loss for Hawaii after pitching 5 2/3 innings allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits and three walk. He struck out two batters and falls to 2-1 with a 1.53 ERA. Angel Hernandez gave up a run on two hits while fanning a batter in 1 1/3 innings of work. Tye Whitford was solid with another clean inning.
Adhyapayana Mehta was 2 for 5 with a double, a run scored and committed one of the errors for the Trops. Rhys Brickell was 1 for 3 with a walk and an RBI.
Sacramento wins 7-2.
Game 2- ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds no hit the Mad Popes for 5 1/3 innings before handing the ball to his bullpen to preserve the win. Reynolds walked two batters and struck out one as he improves to 1-2 with a 9.00 ERA. Tye Whitford pitched an inning and was tagged for the first run he has given up this season. He allowed a couple of hits and a walk. Juan Cerda pitched 2/3 of a clean inning before Dominic Thompson took the mound for the two inning save. Thompson allowed a hit, walked one and struck out one as he earned his 3rd save of the season.
Adhyapayana Mehta was 2 for 5 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored. Mike Campbell was 2 for 4 with two ribbies. Thomas Kramer was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Quinton Lara was 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Hawaii wins 3-1.
The Mad Popes and Tropics split the two-game series.
