The Tropics begin a five-game road trip in Valencia with a three-game series with the Stars.
Game 1- The Stars break a 2-2 tie with the Tropics in the sixth inning with a five-run outburst against Hawaii starter Austin George. George gave up a big three-run triple to Stars SS Quintin Trewartha. George finished with 5 1/3 innings giving up seven runs on eight hits and four walks. He struck out two and falls to 1-2 with a 7.02 ERA. Tye Whitford remains a steady presence on the mound out of the bullpen. He threw 2 1/3 hitless innings with a K in just 20 pitches.
Pedro Huerta was 3 for 4 but was stranded on base all three times. Masaki ‘Icon’ Sato was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Al Garrett was 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
Valencia wins 7-2.
Game 2- The Tropics get homers from Mike Campbell and Frank McMillan while Hawaii pitchers gave up just one run as they even the series 1-1.
Campbell was 2 for 4 with a solo homer, a double, two runs scored and an RBI. McMillan was 2 for 3 with a walk, a solo homer, a run scored and two RBI.
Semih Gurani made the start for Hawaii throwing 5 2/3 innings giving up just three hits but walked four while also fanning four batters. He earns the win to improve 2-1 with a 0.92 ERA. Angel Hernandez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up just a hit then handed the ball to Juan Cerda. Cerda also went 1 1/3 innings but he allowed a solo homer while also fanning three batters. Jason Wellon earned the save by getting the final two outs in one pitch.
Hawaii wins 3-1.
Game 3- The Stars walk it off in the ninth on a solo shot off Hawaii reliever Dominic Thompson. Thompson is tagged with his first loss after allowing a run on two hits with a K. He falls to 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA.
Terry Hansen was awful in this start for the Trops. He allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and a walk in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out a batter in a no decision. Alberto Castaneda pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief of Hansen giving up a hit and two walks. Jason Wellon followed that effort with 1 2/3 hitless innings with a K. Juan Cerda then pitched 2/3 of an inning with a walk and a K before the Thompson disaster.
Ramao ‘Massacre’ Saturnino was 1 for 5 with a two-run homer. Mike Campbell was 1 for 5 with a solo shot in the first inning. Masaki Sato was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Karunamaya Makarand was 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored. Angelo Lucchesi was 2 for 3 with a two-run double.
Valencia wins 7-6.
The Stars win the series 2-1.
