The Tropic News 2053.3
The Tropics make their biggest splash in free agency by signing veteran power hitter Pedro Huerta. Huerta inked a three-year deal paying him $16 million the first year, $15 million the second year and $12 million the final year. Huerta has 368 career HR with 1422 RBI while slashing .307/.350/.553 while playing for three teams over 13 BBA seasons.
The Tropics will have Mike Campbell to protect Huerta in the lineup and the two should provide a powerful duo. Huerta is better defensively at this stage in his career than Campbell and may see more time in RF while Campbell can play 1B, RF or DH.
GM Jim Walker said, “Huerta is the final piece. He is a fan favorite all around the league and will help fill up this park. More importantly, he gives us some power that we have lacked since the Big 3 departed (McBride, Campbell and Allen).”
