The Hawaii Tropics return home for a twelve-game home stand beginning with a three game series against the Long Beach Surfers.



Game 1- Hawaii made two relief acquisitions in the off season to prevent late losses. Those two players gave up seven runs in the top of the eighth inning that sunk the Tropics in the series opener. Angel Hernandez and Dominic Thompson combined to give up those seven runs on four hits and four walks while getting just one out. Thompson took the loss to fall to 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA.

Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds made the start for Hawaii and allowed three runs on five hits and a walk over 4 2/3 innings pitched. He fanned a batter in the no decision.

At the plate, Ron Shiplack led the way for the Tropics with four hits in five at bats. He doubled, stole a base, scored a run and drove in three runs. Stewart Illingworth made a big impact with two homers off of Long Beach pitching. He was 2 for 5 with two runs and three RBI. Adhyapayana Mehta was 2 for 5 with a couple of stolen base, scored a run and drove in a run.



Long Beach wins 11-9.



Game 2- The Tropics even the series with a better game from the pitching staff. Terry Hansen pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing a couple of runs on six hits while striking out a batter as he improve to 1-1 with a 5.31 ERA. Hernandez redeemed himself with a fine effort giving up just a hit while fanning three batters in 1 2/3 innings. Thompson earned the one out save for his 3rd of the season.

Rhys Brickell was 2 for 3 with a two run homer in the first inning. Ramao ‘Massacre’ Saturnino was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Karunamaya Makarand was 3 for 5 with a double and a run scored.



Hawaii wins 5-2.



Game 3- Long Beach starter Takehide Gertrudes and a reliever shut out the Tropics on six hits to take the rubber game. Hawaii starter Semih Gurani looked better but lost again to fall to 0-4. He allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out five and lowered a high ERA to 6.48.

Ramao Saturnino was 2 for 3 with a double while back up catcher Katsumi Matsumoto was 2 for 4.



Long Beach wins 2-0.



Long Beach wins the series 2-1.
