The Hawaii Tropics play a three-game series against the Des Moines Kernels at ‘Iolani Palace.



Game 1- Hawaii third basemen Rhys Brickell breaks out from his slow start with a 3 for 4 effort at the plate to lead the Tropics to their third win in a row. Brickell hit a two-run homer in the third inning and ended the game with two runs scored and four RBI. Shafiq Zahir was 1 for 2 with a double and a couple of walks. He scored two runs and drove in two runs. Adhyapayana Mehta was 3 for 5 with a solo homer, a stolen base, scored three runs and drove in a run. Angelo Lucchesi was 2 for 4 with two RBI.

On the mound, Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds pitched four innings giving up four runs on three hits, walked three batters and fanned three in a no decision. Dominic Thompson earned the win after working 2 2/3 innings of shutout baseball with three Ks. He improves to 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA.



Hawaii wins 9-7.



Game 2- The Tropics take a 3-1 lead in the seventh inning, but the bullpen loses the game in the top of the ninth inning after allowing three runs. Jason Wellon ruined an excellent start for Terry Hansen as he gave up three runs on four hits and a couple of walks in an inning of work. He struck out one batter but falls to 0-1 and gets his first blown save of the season. Hansen allowed an unearned run in six innings on three hits while fanning five batters. Sumitomo Takahashi pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief walking just one batter before the wheels fell off.

Karunamaya Makarand has handled his transition to first base well and was 1 for 4 with two RBI against the Kernels. Ron Shiplack was 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored. Thomas Kramer was 1 for 3 with an RBI.



Des Moines wins 4-3.



Game 3- The early season slump for Hawaii continues as Tropics starter Semih Gurani stumbles again. Gurani was hammered for six runs on six hits, two of which were homers. He walked four and struck out three as he falls to 0-3 with a 7.32 ERA.

Newly signed right fielder Stewart Illingworth was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI in his Hawaii debut. Adhyapayana Mehta was 2 for 4 with a walk and a run scored. Thomas Kramer was 1 for 4 with a run scored and stole a base.



Des Moines wins 10-2.



Des Moines wins the series 2-1.
