The next visitor to the House of Broken Clocks is the Sacramento Mad Popes in a two game series with the Hawaii Tropics.

Game 1- The Mad Popes eek out a one run win over the Tropics to take the series opener. Hawaii rookie starter Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds pitched well but took the loss after allowing three runs (one earned) in 5 2/3 innings. He gave up five hits, walked a couple and fanned one batter as he falls to 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA.

Sumitomo Takahashi pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief allowing two hits and striking out two batters. Jon Whaley is proving to be a really nice bullpen piece. He pitched two innings allowing a hit and struck out a batter.

Rhys Brickell was 1 for 2 with two walks, a run scored and an RBI. Ramao ‘Massacre’ Saturnino was 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Thomas Kramer is hitting well with a 1 for 3 day and an RBI.

Sacramento wins 3-2.

Game 2- The Tropics put up a five spot in the second inning and shut down the Sacramento offense to earn a series split with the pesky Mad Popes. Alejandro Ortiz led the way with a two run homer in the second inning. He was 1 for 4 with two RBI. Ron Shiplack was 2 for 3 with a walk, a double and an RBI. Thomas Kramer was 2 for 4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Semih Gurani picked up his third win of the season after 5 2/3 innings of work allowing two runs on two hits and a couple of walks. He struck out two batters and sports a 3-3 record with a 4.36 ERA.

Alberto Castaneda pitched two innings in relief allowing just two hits and fanning a batter. Denny Hamilton pitched a clean 1 1/3 innings to finish the game.

Hawaii wins 6-2.

Sounds of the series: “These guys stink.”
