The Tropics travel all the way back to California to play a two game series against the Valencia Stars.
Game 1- The Valencia Stars out hit and out pitched the Tropics in a series opening win at Dunn Field. Alejandro Ortiz was 3 for 4 and drove in the only Hawaii run when he singled home Rhys Brickell. Brickell was 1 for 4 with a double.
On the mound, Austin George struggled as he allowed five runs on six hits and a couple of walks. He struck out six batters in four innings of work and falls to 4-5 with a 5.17 ERA.
Valencia wins 8-1.
Game 2- The Valencia Stars complete the short series sweep as they crush the Tropics in the finale. The Stars did the biggest damage in the third inning when they scored nine runs on nine hits. Rookie Hawaii starter Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds was rocked for eight runs on eight hits and two walks to take the loss. He struck out a batter and only pitched 2 1/3 innings. He falls to 2-1 with a bloated 6.18 ERA.
Alejandro Ortiz remains a force in the Hawaii lineup as he homered again for the Trops and was 1 for 4 on the day. Backup catcher Katsumi Matsumoto was 2 for 4 with a double and a solo homer. Thomas Kramer was 1 for 2 with a triple and a couple of walks. He scored a run and drove in a run.
Valencia wins 15-4.
