The Hawaii Tropics make their next stop in Des Moines to play a four game series against the Kernels.



Game 1- The Trops ride the clutch hitting of catcher Ron Shiplack to a victory over the Kernels in the series opener. Shiplack was helped out by a 3 for 4 day at the plate from first baseman Alejandro Ortiz. Ortiz hit a two run homer to go with the 3 for 4 day from Shiplack and four RBI. Rhys Brickell added a double in 4 at bats with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. Ramao ‘Massacre’ Saturnino was 2 for 5 with four runs scored.

Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds made the start for Hawaii pitching 5 1/3 innings allowing five runs on eight hits and a couple of walks. He fanned two batters and gets the win to improve to 2-0 with a 3.91 ERA. Sumitomo Takahashi fired 1 2/3 innings of relief giving up a hit, a walk and striking out four batters for his second hold of the season. Ronnie Sprinkles made his sixth save of the season with two scoreless innings of relief. He gave up a hit and struck out two batters.



Hawaii wins 8-5.



Game 2- The Hawaii Tropics score a run in the eighth inning and another in the ninth inning to tie the game. Ron Shiplack was the hero in extras as he slapped a two run double to give Hawaii a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Carlos Sanchez drove in Shiplack with a single to give the Trops a three-run cushion.

Shiplack was 1 for 4 with a double, a walk, a run scored and two RBI while Carlos Sanchez was 2 for 5 with a solo homer, a run scored and two RBI. Alejandro Ortiz smacked another homer with a solo shot in the fourth inning. He finished the day 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Semih Gurani was good for Hawaii pitching 5 2/3 innings allowing two runs on seven hits and a couple of walks. He struck out seven batters in a no decision. Jason Wellon earned the win after throwing three scorelsss innings to finish the game. He allowed just two hits and fanned two batters. He improves to 3-1 with a 1.98 ERA.



Hawaii wins 6-3.



Game 3- The Kernels make the late comeback and walk it off in extras to get on the board in the series with Hawaii. Des Moines scored two runs in the eighth inning to tie the game up 3-3 before winning in the tenth on a run scoring single.

Hawaii starter Daruna Maddukuri is still struggling with his control but he gave up just a run on two hits while walking four batters. He struck out six in 5 1/3 innings in a no decision.

Adhyapayana Mehta was 3 for 5 with a run scored and a stolen base while Hector Vazquez was also 3 for 5 with a stolen base. Backup catcher Katsumi Matsumoto was 1 for 4 with a solo homer in the eighth inning.



Des Moines wins 4-3.



Game 4- Rookie starter Michael Kalil wins his sixth game of the season as the Tropics win the series against the Kernels. Kalil pitched six strong inning allowing a run on four hits. He walked no one and fanned five batters.

Ramao Saturnino was 2 for 4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI. Rhys Brickell was 1 for 4 with a two run homer in the sixth inning. Adhyapayana Mehta was 2 for 4 with a walk and a run scored.



Hawaii wins 5-2.
