The Hawaii Tropics continue their home stand with a three game series against the Portland Lumberjacks.



Game 1- Two Portland Lumberjacks pitchers combine to shut out the Tropics on five hits to take the series opener. Adhyapayana Mehta had two of the five Hawaii hits in his four at bats.

Daruna Maddukuri made the start and took the loss after throwing five innings allowing four runs on nine hits and four walks. He struck out three batters and falls to 2-4 with a 6.98 ERA.

Denny Hamilton pitched two innings giving up a hit and fanned two batters. Ernie Poole made an appearance allowing a hit in 1 1/3 innings and striking out a batter.

The Hawaii defense managed to turn three double plays to keep the game close.



Portland wins 4-0.



Game 2- The Tropics eek out a win against the Lumberjacks to even the series 1-1. Michael Kalil navigated the Portland line up giving up two runs on three hits. He walked four batters and struck out one as he improved to 4-3 with a 5.05 ERA.

Sumitomo Takahashi pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief allowing just two hits and striking out two batters for his first hold of the season. Ronnie Sprinkles made his fourth save with two innings of work allowing a hit and fanning two batters.

Alejandro Ortiz was 2 for 4 with a solo homer in the fifth inning. Sergio Feliz was 2 for 4 with an RBI while DH-ing fro the Tropics. Ron Shiplack was 1 for 3 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI.



Hawaii wins 4-2.



Game 3- The Tropics and Lumberjacks play to a scoreless tie for twelve innings before both teams strike for runs in the thirteenth inning. Portland scores another run in the top of the fourteenth to take the lead and shut down Hawaii in the home half to take the game and win the series.

Semih Gurani pitched four scoreless innings for Hawaii allowing four hits and a couple of walks. He struck out eight batters in the no decision.

Jason Wellon was excellent in relief pitching three no hit innings. Ronnie Sprinkles matched that effort with two hitless innings and added three Ks. Alberto Castaneda pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk while fanning two batters. The cracks began to appear as Tye Whitford took the mound and allowed an unearned run on three hits and a couple of walks in 1 1/3 innings of work. He fanned one batter before giving the ball to Denny Hamilton. Hamilton gave up the winning run after 1 1/3 innings pitched on two hits while striking out two batters. He falls to 0-2 with a 4.09 ERA.

Adhyapayana Mehta was 3 for 6 with a double and a walk. He scored a run and was thrown out stealing.



Portland wins 2-1.
