The Tropic News 2049.51
The Hawaii Tropics visit the Vancouver Mounties to play a three game series. Hawaii holds a 6-2 record against Vancouver this season.
Game 1- The Tropics is Mounties go to extras tied 2-2 before rookie Hong-vu ‘Topper’ Sam blasted a solo homer to give Hawaii the one run lead.
Ronnie Sprinkles recorded two outs in the home half of the tenth before Luis Santiago came on to relieve Sprinkles for a cheap one out save.
Sprinkles pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out a batter to earn the win. The game was started by Ernie Poole who went 6 1/3 innings giving up a run on three hits and two walks. He fanned six in a no decision.
Sam ended the day 2 for 4 with a solo homer, a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
Hawaii wins 3-2.
Game 2- Bill Dempsey and three Hawaii relievers combine for a six hit shut out of the Mounties to give the Tropics a 2-0 series lead.
Dempsey pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up just four hits while fanning six batters in his 9th win of the season. He lowers his ERA to 4.17. Rich Martinez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and striking out one. Alberto Castaneda pitched two clean innings fanning three batters with
Tye Whitford following him with 2/3 of an inning of scoreless, hitless baseball. He struck out one and earned his 4th save of the season.
Bernardo Garcia was 2 for 4 with a stolen base and a run scored. Rhys Brickell was 0 for 3 with a walk and an RBI.
Hawaii wins 1-0.
Game 3- The Hawaii Tropics complete the series sweep with another good combined effort by their pitching staff. SP Daruna Maddukuri got it stared with 4 1/3 innings of work allowing a run on five hits and a walk while striking out three batters. He was relieved by Seung-hwan Yu. Yu went 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk while fanning two batters. With the game still ties at 1-1, Denny Hamilton relieved Yu and also pitched 1 1/3 innings. He allowed no runs and no hits to win his 3rd game of the season. He has a nice 1.50 ERA in relief this season. Ronnie Sprinkles finished the game off with two innings of work giving up just a hit and striking out two for the save.
Thomas Kramer was 3 for 3 with a solo homer, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Sam was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Hawaii wins 2-1.
In the three game series Hawaii scored 6 runs while Vancouver could muster only 3.
