The Hawaii Tropics make a trip to the mainland for a four game series against the Chicago Black Sox.



Game 1- The Tropics held a slim 1-0 lead against the Black Sox but Chicago pushed across a run in the seventh inning and one in the eighth to get the win. SP Sumitomo Takahashi threw seven good innings for Hawaii allowing just a run on four hits and two walks. He fanned five batters in a no decision. Rich Martinez gave up the winning run on a solo shot in the eighth. He threw an inning giving up two hits and taking the loss.

CF Bernardo Garcia was 2 for 4 with a solo homer in the sixth inning off of Chicago starter John McClain.



Chicago wins 2-1.



Game 2- Hawaii’s Ronnie Sprinkles spun a gem on the mound with seven innings of one run ball against the Black Sox. He gave up just three hits and walked one while striking out four. He gets his first win of the season with a 1.29 ERA. RP Luis Santiago pitched 1 1/3 of innings giving up a hit, walking one and striking out one for his first hold of the season then Denny Hamilton came on to get the final two outs for his second save.

On offense, C Ron Shiplack was 2 for 4 with a double and a solo homer. He scored a run and drove in two on the day. CF Manny Garcia was 1 for 3 with a walk and a solo homer.



Hawaii wins 4-1.



Game 3- The Tropics scored three runs early then three more late in the game to pull away from the Black Sox. LF Bronx ‘Little Bron’ Cortez put the dagger in Chicago with a three run blast in the eighth inning off of reliever Matt Spencer. Cortez ended the say 1 for 4 and also struck to two times.

Pierangelo Ferri was the dH for the game and was 1 for 4 with a solo shot in the fifth inning.

On the mound, Bill Dempsey was solid for Hawaii with 5 2/3 innings of work. He surrendered no runs on two hits while he walked two and struck out two. He earned the win to move to 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA.

RP Scott Lucas came on in relief and he pitched 2 1/3 innings getting tagged with a run on three hits. All in all it was a good appearance and he gets his first hold of the season.



Hawaii wins 6-1.



Game 4- The Tropics shock the Black Sox with three runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull ahead. The Trops hold on for a series win against Chicago for their first series win of the season.

SP Maup Manshert wasn’t as good as he was in the season opener for Hawaii but he got the job done in this one. He pitched five innings giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits, three walks while fanning five. His bullpen allowed just a hit the rest of the way as Denny Hamilton earned the win. Hamilton pitched two innings walking one and striking out two batters. He gave the ball to Rich Martinez who threw 1 2/3 innings surrendering just a hit and giving up a walk. Tye Whitford came on for the last bit and to get the save.

Ron Shiplack was 1 for 5 with a bases loaded double in the seventh. Bernardo Garcia was 2 for 4 with a solo homer, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Manny Garcia was 1 for 4 with a triple , a run scored and an RBI.



Hawaii wins 7-4 and wins the series 3-1.
