The Hawaii Tropics play their final series of the season with four games against the Long Beach Surfers at Vito Constantino Memorial Stadium.
Game 1- The Surfers and Tropics engage in a pitching duel with Long Beach coming out on top. The Hawaii offense could only muster a run on six hits off of Long Beach pitching. Hawaii SP Bob McConnell gave up three runs on nine hits to the Surfers in 5 1/3 innings. He walked none and fanned three batters but falls to 7-11 with a 6.10 ERA.
The Hawaii Tropics had heir only run off of a Bronx ‘Little Bron’ Cortez solo homer.
Long Beach wins 3-1.
Game 2- The Tropics and Surfers play to a 0-0 tie through nine innings before Long Beach walk it off solo homer in the bottom of the tenth. Hawaii could just muster three hits against the Surfers while Long Beach could only muster five hits.
SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani was good for Hawaii with seven innings of work. He allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out three.
The Trops had hits from Ron Shiplack (1 for 3), Ira Sanchez (1 for 4) and Manny Garcia (1 for 3).
Long Beach wins 1-0.
Game 3- The Tropics and Surfers agin play even through nine innings but the Trops blow the game open with a five run eleventh to get the win. SP Zak ‘Hitman’ Johnson has ended his season on a high note with seven innings of six hit one run baseball. He walked none and struck out four in a no decision. Denny Hamilton pitched two innings allowing just a hit and issuing a walk while fanning two batters. Tye Whitford pitched two innings walking one, striking out one and getting the win.
Ira Sanchez was 2 for 4 with two RBI. Logan ‘LJ’ Niles was 2 for 5 with a two run homer. Mike Campbell was 1 for 2 with a solo homer.
Hawaii wins 6-1.
Game 4- The Tropics and Surfers play another thriller as Hawaii score two runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead then hold on for the win and series split. SP Maup Manshert was fantastic going 7 2/3 innings giving up just a run on four hits. He walked none and struck out three in a no decision. Ronnie Sprinkles pitched an inning allowing a hit and getting the win to improve to 7-6 with a 3.49 ERA.
Otto Altaner was 1 for 3 with a solo homer. Mike Campbell was 1 for 1 with a pinch hit two run homer.
Hawaii wins 3-1.
