The Hawaii Tropics take a trip to Vancouver for a three game series with the Mounties at North woods Outpost.
Game 1- The Mounties respond to every Tropics run scored to easily win the series opener. Hawaii used a bullpen day to get through this game and it wasn’t good. Rookie Bill Dempsey took the mound to start the game going 2 1/3 innings allowing three runs on three hits while walking two batters and fanning one.
Otto Altaner was 1 for 4 with a solo homer. Logan ‘LJ’ Niles was 2 for 3 with a double, two stolen bases and a run scored.
Vancouver wins 8-3.
Game 2- The Mounties score four runs in the bottom of the first then hold on for another win over the Tropics. Hawaii’s depleted pitching staff started Ernie Poole and received bad results. First, he gave up four runs on five hits with two walks and two Ks. Second, he left the game with a season ending injury that will keep him out probably five months.
The bullpen then went 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to give their offense a chance. They gave up six hits, walked 3 and fanned four.
Pierangelo Ferri was 2 for 4 with a two run homer. Bronx ‘Little Bron’ Cortez was 1 for 3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI.
Vancouver wins 4-3.
Game 3- The Mounties come back from a 3-0 deficit with five runs in the seventh and three in the eighth to earn a series sweep of the Trops. Ernesto Garcia left Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani in a bit too long as he gave up five runs on five hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings of work. He fanned three batters and falls to 8-8 with a 4.48 ERA.
C Ron Shiplack was 1 for 3 with a triple, a run and an RBI. Adhyapayana Mehta was 1 for 4 with a run scored and two stolen bases. Lorenzo Gonzales was 1 for 4 with an RGI and three stolen bases.
Vancouver wins 8-3 and sweeps the series.
