The Tropic News 2048.34
The Hawaii Tropics return home to play a three game series with the Long Beach Surfers.
Game 1- The Surfers and Tropics engaged in an intense pitching duel in the series opener. The Tropics scored a run in the first to jump out to an early lead but Long Beach responded with a run of their own in the top of the second. It remained that score until the bottom of the eleventh when Logan ‘LJ’ Niles hit a sac fly to allow Omar Altaner to score the walk off run.
Niles ended the day 1 for 4 with that game winning RBI. C Ron Shiplack was 1 for 4 with a first inning RBI. Omar Altaner was 2 for 5 with a double and a runs scored.
SP Maup Manshert got the start for Hawaii and pitched six solid innings. He allowed just a run on four hits and two walks. He fanned eight in the no decision and lowers his ERA to 4.40.
Rich Martinez came on to pitch a clean seventh inning then pass the baton to Ronnie Sprinkles. Sprinkles pitched two innings giving up just a hit and striking out four batters. Jon Whaley pitched 1 2/3 innings just walking a batter then he gave the ball to Jorge Andres who recorded an out then received the win.
Hawaii wins 2-1.
Game 2- Long Beach Surfer CF Al Garrett commits an error that sparks a big second inning for the Tropics. With two outs in the second, Adhyapayana Mehta hit a two run double to put Hawaii on the board. Then, with two men on, Jorge Salas blasted a three run homer to boost the lead to 5-1 as Hawaii cruised to a second win over Long Beach.
SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up two runs on four hits. He walked four and fanned six improving to 7-6 with a 4.63 ERA.
Hawaii wins 6-3.
Game 3- The Tropics get another good pitching performance by their staff as they sweep the series against the Surfers. SP Zak ‘Hitman’ Johnson showed what he is capable of with 6 1/3 innings of work. He allowed two runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out eight batters. He improved to 9-13 with a 5.01 ERA.
Adhyapayana Mehta was 3 for 4 with a double, two stolen bases and two runs scored. He was caught stealing on his third attempt. Bronx ‘Little Bron’ Cortez was 2 for 3 with a double and a solo homer. He scored a run and drove in two runs.
Hawaii wins 4-2.
