The Tropic News 2048.30
The Hawaii Tropics begin a nine game home stand against beginning with a three game series versus the Nashville Bluebirds. The Bluebirds are 3-0 against Hawaii after a sweep in Nashville.
Game 1- The Hawaii Tropics finally get a win against the Bluebirds this season with a good effort from the pitching staff and a walk off hit in extras. It began with four innings from SP Atmo ‘Mole’ Ananas. The Mole allows a run on four hits and two walks while fanning three batters. He was relieved in the fifth by Scott Lucas who pitched an inning but allowed a run on a hit and two walks but did strike out one. Next up was Tye Whitford. Whitford pitched one inning giving up two hits, a walk and struck out one.The veteran Rich Martinez took the ball and had a clean inning. Ronnie Sprinkles added an inning of work giving up two hits and issuing a walk. He fanned one and passed baton to Jorge Andres. Andres pitched two perfect innings and fanned two batters to earn his first win as a Tropic.
Stephen Cox was 1 for 3 with a two run homer. Mike Campbell was 2 for 5 with the game winning RBI.
Hawaii wins 3-2.
Game 2- The Tropics jump out to a 3-0 lead but the lead slips away late as the Bluebirds even the series 1-1. SP Zak ‘Hitman’ Johnson was good early but faltered in the fourth inning on to take the loss. He surrendered five runs on seven hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out nine in the loss.
LF Bronx ‘Little Bron’ Cortez was 1 for 1 with a run, an RBI and two walks. Omar Altaner was 3 for 4 with an RBI.
Nashville wins 5-4.
Game 3- Nashville and Hawaii play to a 2-2 tie after nine innings but the Bluebirds comet on top with a run in the top of the tenth to take the game and series. Cortez was 1 for 4 with a solo homer. Omar Altaner was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Stephen Cox was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
On the mound, Bob McConnell pitched out of his mind with 6 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while fanning three batters in a no decision.
Nashville wins 3-2.
