The Hawaii Tropics continue their season opening road trip with a four game series against the Sacramento Mad Popes.



Game 1- The Tropics and Mad Popes battle to a 2-2 tie in nine innings but Hawaii gets the win with a five run eleventh. Rookie 2B Adhyapayana Mehta was hitless until the eleventh when he launched his 4th double the season scoring a man on second to give the Tropics the lead. The Tropics piled on four more runs on hits by Logan ‘LJ’ Niles and Ron Shiplack.

Mehta finished the day 1 for 6 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Niles was 2 for 5 with a run scored and two RBI and Shiplack was 1 for 5 with a double and three RBI. Mike Campbell was 2 for 4 with his first homer of the season. He scored two runs, drove in one and stole a base.

On the mound, the good Zak ‘Hitman’ Johnson made an appearance. He went six innings allowing no runs on just four hits. He did walk three and fanned two batters but didn’t get the decision. Luis Santiago came on in relief and blew the save opportunity giving up two runs on two hits, a walk and two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings of work. Ronnie Sprinkles then took the ball and gave up just a hit in 2 1/3 innings to earn the win. RJ Davis finished the game off with a clean inning.



Hawaii wins 7-2.



Game 2- The Sacramento Mad Popes jump on Hawaii SP Ernie Poole for five runs and cruise to a win to even the series at 1-1. Poole gave up those five runs in five innings of work. He gave up four hits, walked three and struck out three. RP Scott Lucas settled things down for the Tropics with two good innings. He worked around two hits and held off the Mad Popes offense. Tye Whitford pitched an inning allowing two hits and striking out one.

Logan Niles and Stephen Cox were both 1 for 3 with solo homers in the eighth inning.



Sacramento wins 5-2.



Game 3- The Tropics and Mad Popes engaged in a pitching duel with the home team Popes coming out on the winning end. Alaric Wullenweber was good for Hawaii going six innings allowing two runs on six hits, walking no one and fanning six. He takes the loss and falls to 1-1 with a 2.02 ERA in the early going.

Mehta was 2 for 4 with an RBI to lead the Hawaii offense.



Sacramento wins 2-1.



Game 4- Another nail biter between the Tropics and Mad Popes in Sacramento. The Tropics led 3-1 going into the bottom of the ninth but Sacramento gets two runs to send the game to extras. The Mad Popes then walked it off with a solo homer in the bottom of the twelfth to take the series 3 game to 1.

Hawaii SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing one unearned run on six hits while walking three and striking out two.

Ron Shiplack was 1 for 5 with a double and two RBI.



Sacramento wins 4-3.



The Tropics finish their ten game road trip with a three game series in Vancouver against the Mounties.



Game 1- The Mounties crush the Tropics in the series opener chasing Hawaii SP Maup Manshert after 3 2/3 innings. Manshert gave up eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits and two walks. He struck out four and falls to 0-1 with a 12.96 ERA after two starts.

Ron Shiplack was 3 for 4 for the Tropics.



Vancouver wins 9-0.



Game 2- The Tropics commit three errors but do just enough to get by the Mounties to even the series. Zak Johnson pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing four unearned runs (one earned). He gave up four hits, walked none and fanned four. Tye Whitford pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up just a hit and striking out four batters. Ronnie Sprinkles earned his first save of the season in 2/3 of an inning of work. He gave up a hit and struck out one.

LF Bronx ‘Little Bron’ Cortez was 1 for 3 with a two run homer in the fourth inning. Mike Campbell was 2 for 3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Mehta was 2 for 5 with a double, a run scored and two stolen bases.

Hawaii wins 5-4.



Game 3- The Mounties break the 5-5 tie with the Tropics with a run in the bottom of the seventh and hold off the Hawaii offense for the series win. Mehta was the hitting star for Hawaii with a 4 for 5 day at the plate but he scored just once. Cortez was 1 for 4 with a three run homer in the fifth inning.

Ernie Poole allowed five runs in another start for the Tropics. He pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up ten hits, walking two and striking out four.



Vancouver wins 6-5.
