The Tropic News 2048.6
The Hawaii Tropics begin the 2048 BBA Campaign with a ten game round trip. The first series is a three game set against the hard to predict Seattle Storm.
Game 1- Hawaii Ace Alaric Wullenweber pitches seven strong innings and Pierangelo Ferri returns to the team in a big way going 4 for 4 to lead the Trops to a win.
Wullenweber gave up just a run on three hits and a walk while fanning nine batters. Rule 5 pick Tye Whitford made his big league debut going 1 2/3 allowing a run on three hits. He struck out one in earning his first career hold. Denny Hamilton allowed a hit and secured the win with a strikeout to end the game.
Ferri hit a two run homer and Logan ‘LJ’ Niles (1 for 4) followed him with a solo homer.
Hawaii wins 3-2.
Game 2- The Tropics get two runs in the seventh inning to take the lead and hold on for their second win of the series. Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani took the mound to start the game for Hawaii and went 5 2/3 innings. He allowed three runs on nine hits and walked two. He struck out five batters in the no decision. Ronnie Sprinkles came on for an inning of work and gave up two hits and struck out one to get the win. Whitford made his second appearance giving up two hits and no runs in 2/3 of an inning for his second hold of the season. Denny Hamilton earned his second save in 1 2/3. He allowed just a hit and fanned one.
On offense, Bronx ‘Little Bron’ Cortez was 2 for 3 with a two out solo homer in the fourth inning. Rookie 2B Adhyapayana Mehta recorded his first career hit with a double in the seventh inning. He was 1 for 5 with a stolen base and two RBI.
Hawaii wins 4-3.
Game 3- Hawaii SP Maup Manshert struggled in his first start of the season, He gave up five runs on nine hits, walked five and struck out four in 4 2/3 innings of work. The bullpen took over and no hit the Storm the rest of the way. Bob McConnell was tough striking out four in 2 1/3 innings and earned the win. He was followed by another Rule 5 pick Jon Whaley. Whaley went two innings and fanned two batters.
Offensively, Mehta was 3 for 5 with two doubles and a walk. He scored two runs and drove in one. Lorenzo Gonzales was 3 for 6 with a run scored. “Mr. Tropic” Mike Campbell was 1 for 4 with a double, a walk, a run scored and three RBI. Cortez was 2 for 6 with his second homer of the season, a run scored and three RBI. C Ron Shiplack had a big day with four hits in five at bats. He hit a solo shot and scored three runs. Finally, Ira Sanchez was 3 for 4 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and two RBI.
Hawaii wins 12-5 and earn the series sweep.
