The Hawaii Tropics continue the road trip with a three game series against the Omaha Cyclones at Hawks Field.

Game 1- The run of good starts by SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani end as the Cyclones destroy the Tropics in the series opener. Destefani threw 55 pitches in just two innings of work giving up six runs on seven hits. He also walked three and struck out two. He falls to 9-5 on the season with a 3.52 ERA.

Hawaii RF Mike Campbell was the Tropics offense going 2 for 3 with a two run homer.

Omaha wins 12-2.

Game 2- The Omaha Cyclones are locked in as they pound out 16 hits and 10 runs to overwhelm the Tropics again. Hawaii SP Jesus Gonzalez was the victim this time going 2 2/3 innings allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits, walked three and struck out three. He falls to 5-7 with a 5.11 ERA.

CF Manny Garcia was 1 for 4 with a solo homer.

3B Hector Ojeda is adding to his career year going 1 for 2 with a solo homer and a walk.

Omaha wins 10-3.

Game 3- The Hawaii pitching staff took another one on the chin giving up 10 more runs on nine hits but the offense woke from their slumber. Hawaii C Ron Shiplack was 2 for 5 with two homers, two runs and five RBI to lead the Tropics. The big hit was a Grand Slam in the ninth inning that put Hawaii up for good.

DH Ernest McBride was 2 for 4 with a two run homer and scored two runs to give Shiplack some help. Mike Campbell was 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBI.

Tropics SP Zak ‘Hitman’ Johnson fared no better than Destefani and Gonzalez as he was pounded for six runs on four hits and three walks. He struck out one in two innings of work.

Hawaii pulls this game out to avoid the sweep 11-10.

The Tropics return home for a three game series against the Nashville Bluebirds.

Game 1- The starting pitching woes continue as SP Bob McConnell goes only 3 2/3 innings and surrenders four runs on seven hits. He walked four and struck out three but received a no decision. The bullpen took charge after he left the game allowing six hits and no runs the rest of the way. That gave Hawaii’s offense time to regroup and stage a comeback. That happened in the bottom of the seventh as the Tropics scored five runs to take the lead.

Ernest McBride was 2 for 4 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI.

1B Gary Allen was 1 for 3 with a two run homer and a walk.

SS Logan ‘LJ’ Niles was 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Hawaii wins 6-4.

Game 2- Hawaii SP Alaric Wullenweber strikes out nine batters in 5 2/3 innings. He allowed a run on five hits and a walk but gets a no decision as the Bluebirds score the go ahead run in the top of the eighth. The Tropics offense could do nothing from then on as Nashville evens the series.

Gary Allen was 1 for 4 with a solo homer.

Nashville wins 2-1.

Game 3- Nashville again scores late as they take the series from the Tropics 2-1. The Bluebirds broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the ninth on a three run homer given up by Hawaii RP Raymond Ortiz.

The Tropics wasted a good start from Nicky Destefani who pitched seven innings allowing two runs on five hits with ten Ks.

Ernest McBride was 2 for 3 with a two run homer.

Nashville wins 5-2.
