The Hawaii Tropics stay on the road to open the season and pay a visit to Sacramento to play a four games series against the Mad Popes.



Game 1- Hawaii RF Mike Campbell goes 3 for 3 with two homers, three runs scored and three RBI to pace the Tropics in a series opening win.

SS Logan ‘LJ’ Niles (1 for 4) and DH Ernest McBride (3 for 5) both homer with the Niles homer, the first of his career.

SP Jesus Gonzalez pitched 6 innings giving up two runs on eight hits, a couple of walks and struck out five in a no decision.



Hawaii wins 10-8.



Game 2- Hawaii Rookie SP Ernie Poole pitched 7 strong innings surrendering three runs on four hits and a couple of walks. He struck out one and was very economical with only 86 pitches. He earns his first career win.

On offense, LF Bronx ‘Little Bron’ Cortez was 3 for 4 with a double, homer, a run scored and five RBI.



Hawaii wins 7-3.



Game 3- The Hawaii Tropics take advantage of Gary Allen being hit by a pitch and turn it into the winning run. With one out in the top of the 13th, Allen was plunked by Sacramento reliever Jose Zamora. Allen was moved to second on a Mike Campbell single then scored on a double off the bat of Jose Camacho. RP Bob McConnell finished out the win with a 1-2-3 inning.

SP Alaric Wullenweber had another great start going 8 1/3 innings allowing just a run on four hits, a walk and struck out seven.

Camacho was 2 for 5 with an RBI.



Hawaii wins 2-1.



Game 4- The Tropics score three runs in the top of the ninth inning to steal a sweep of the Mad Popes in Sacramento. Gary Allen was 3 for 3 with a double, a homer, two runs scored and two RBI. Camacho was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

SP Zak ‘Hitman’ Johnson had a better start the second time around. Johnson went 5 1/3 innings and surrendered three runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out one in a no decision.



Hawaii wins 5-3 and sweeps the four game series.



After a travel day, the Tropics play a three game series in Vancouver against the Mounties.



Game 1- Vancouver ends the Hawaii five game winning streak with a good hitting and pitching. Vancouver pitching struck out 11 Tropics hitters and the Mounties offense put up 8 runs.

Mike Campbell was 2 for 4 with an RBI for Hawaii.

SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three runs on five hits, a couple of walks and seven strike outs.



Vancouver wins 8-4.



Game 2- Hawaii 3B Hector Ojeda hit two homers and drove in three runs to lead the Tropics to a win to tie the series 1-1. Mike Campbell was 2 for 5 with a homer and three RBI.

Wullenweber pitched 6 innings and gave up four runs on five hits with no walks. He struck out five and earned his 2nd win of the season.



Hawaii wins 9-6.



Game 3- Rookie Starter Ernie Poole is making an early claim for Rookie of the Year. Poole pitched five scoreless innings against the Mounties allowing just four hits and issued four walks. He struck out two batters and won his 2nd of the season.

Poole’s battery mate, Ron Shiplack, was 3 for 4 with a homer, a run scored and two RBI.



Hawaii wins 4-0 and wins the series 2-1.
