The Hawaii Tropics play a thee game series in Long Beach against the Surfers at Vito Constantino Memorial Stadium.
Game 1- The Tropics score six runs in the last three innings to race past the Surfers in the series opener. Hawaii lead off Manny Garcia was 3 for 4 with his 12th homer of the season. He scored a run and drove in two runs. DH Ernest McBride added his 15th homer of the season while going 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. The other Fernando Rodriguez was 4 for 4 with three runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base. His performance turned the lineup over to get the big boys to the plate.
SP Bob McConnell pitched 5 innings allowing three runs on three hots, walked three and struck out three.
RP Steve Bobovnik earned his 2nd win of the season with an inning pitched and surrendering just a walk.
Hawaii wins 9-4.
Game 2- SP Alaric Wullenweber was dominant against the Surfers pitching 8 1/3 innings and giving up just one hit and issuing one walk. He struck out 10 Surfers in 100 pitches and improves to 8-3 on the season with a 2.79 ERA.
Mario Garcia was 2 for 5 with a run scored and a stolen base. Garcia is hitting .308 with 12 homers and 25 RBI. This seems to be a breakout season for Garcia. Tropics Manager Ricardo Morales said of Garcia, “We are just letting him face right handed pitching and he is tearing it up. His defense is lacking but as long as he produces on offense that will work for this team.”
C Ron Shiplack was 1 for 4 with a two run homer.
Hawaii wins 5-0.
Game 3- The Tropics get a big series sweep of the Surfers as Manny Garcia and Ernest McBride hit two run homers. SP Stephen Taub adds 7 1/3 innings of one hit baseball, giving up no runs, walking two batters and striking out three. He improves to 2-0 with a 2.97 ERA.
1B Gary Allen was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
Ricardo Morales said, “We have a bit of luck that we didn’t have to face Danya Tchekanov. We will take what we can get.”
Hawaii wins 5-1.
The Tropics travel up the coast for a two game series with the Sacramento Mad Popes at the Basilica at Muskrat Slough.
Game 1- The Tropics trailed the series opener 5-0 going into the top of the eighth inning. The Trops score four in the eighth and three in the ninth to take the lead. RP Luis Santiago came on in the bottom of the ninth to get the save. He allowed a hit and struck out a batter.
SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up two runs on four hits, three walks and struck out three.
RF Mike Campbell was 1 for 2 with a three run homer and three walks.
3B Fernando Rodriguez was 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI.
Hawaii wins 7-5.
Game 2- The Tropic score five runs late once again and sweep the short two game series with the Mad Popes. CF Manny Garcia was 1 for 4 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Make Campbell was 1 for 3 with two RBI.
SP Zak Johnson is pitching well this season. He pitched 6 innings giving up just three hits, walked no one and struck out three. He improves to 6-1 with a 3.64 ERA.
RP Norm McConnell earned his first save of the season pitching a clean 1 1/3 innings and striking out three.
Hawaii wins 5-1.
