The Hawaii Tropics arrive at their spring training site to begin preparations for the 2045 BBA season. The Tropics had a very quiet off season with only one free agent signing. Hawaii signed former Brooklyn Robins RP Steven Bobovnik. Bobvnik is a right hander that has struggled the last couple of seasons.
GM James Walker said of Bobovnik, “We are going to use him like we do the rest of the guys in the pen. He will be assigned a number of pitches and number of batters faced to give him a chance to succeed.”
Most of the eyes in camp will be on who will step into the shoes of former CF Ronnie Hubbard.
The GM said, “We are gonna use a platoon in center with Michel Noel against lefties and Manny Garcia against righties.
Mr. Walker was asked how he was going to fill third base with Miguel Rodriguez signing in Louisville. He said. “We played Ernesto Angel at third in winter ball. He picked the position up quickly so we are gonna bring him up and give him more time this spring. I’m confident he will make the roster out of spring training. He is a switch hitter but he hits better as a lefty. We are also working out Ben Vaive at third to play him there against lefties and probably use him as a super utility.”
