The Tropic News 2044.6
The Hawaii Tropics return home for the first time since spring training for their 2044 home opener. The Tropics face off with the San Fernando Bears in a three game series.
Game 1- SP Alaric Wullenweber spins another gem going 7 2/3 innings and giving up just 2 hits while striking out 13 batters en route to his 2nd win of the season.
3B Miguel Rodriguez provided the only run the Tropics would need with a double to score C Ron Shiplack. Shiplack homered in the eighth for an insurance run. Rodriguez was 1 for 3 and Shiplack was 2 for 3.
Hawaii wins 2-0.
Game 2- Tropics 2B Jack “Junkyard” Nichols hits 2 homers and drive in 3 runs and the Hawaii bullpen holds on to secure the win.
Hawaii SP Zak Johnson picked up his third win going 6 1/3 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and struck out 4 batters.
The Bears went hitless the final 2 2/3 innings of the game as RP Douglas Wils, RP Juan “Rash” Hernandez and RP Norm McConnell shut the door.
Hawaii wins 6-4.
Game 3- Hawaii RF Mike Campbell takes advantage of runners on base and drives in 7 runs. Campbell was 3 for 5 with a Grand Slam and 2 doubles.
Jack Nicholas was walked 3 times in front of Campbell and scored all three times.
DHErnest McBride was 2 for 4 with 2 runs and an RBI.
SP Jesus Gonzalez struggled against the Bears going 4 innings surrendering 5 runs on 6 hits, a walk and struck out 6 batters. The bullpen again did a good job of shutting down the San Fernando offense as they gave up just 1 hit over 5 innings of work.
Hawaii wins 12-5 and sweeps the series.
The Hawaii Tropics host The Chicago Black Sox at Diamond head for a three game series.
Game 1- Hawaii SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani pitched 7 strong innings and LF Bastiao Fardos hits a 3 run homer to lead the Tropics to a series opening win.
Destefani allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6 batters. He improved to 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA.
Fardos was 2 for 4 with a run and 3 RBI.
Hawaii wins 6-2.
Game 2- The Hawaii Tropics were trailing the Chicago Black Sox 7-3 going into the bottom of the eighth. The Tropics offense exploded with 5 runs off of the Black Sox bullpen to steal the game. The big hit was a 2 run homer off the bat of LF Bastiao Fardos to put the Tropics up 8-7.
Fardos ended the day 3 for 5 with a homer, double, a run scored, 2 RBI and a stolen base.
2B Jack Nichols was 2 for 4 with a double, triple, 2 runs and 2 RBI.
Backup C Enrique Dominguez] was 2 for 2 with a double, 2 walks, 2 runs and 2 RBI.
Alaric Wullunweber got the start and struggled through 5 2/3 innings allowing 4 runs on 8 hits and a walk. He did strike out 13 batters in the no decision.
Hawaii wins 8-7.
Game 3- The Chicago Black Sox turn the tables on the Tropics in the finale scoring 3 runs in the top of the ninth and hold on for the win and avoid the sweep.
Tropics RP Norm McConnell blew his second save of the season allowing 3 runs on 1 1/3 innings of work. He gave up 4 hits and a walk while walking 2.
Ernest McBride was 1 for 5 with 2 RBI.
Chicago wins 5-3 but Hawaii wins the series 2-1.
