Naples, Florida- Tropics farm hand Charles Lowe no hit the Kissimmee Kernels in Florida Prospect League play. Lowe fanned 9 and walked only one batter in a 107 pitch performance.

The Baby Trops won the game 8-0.

In a post game interview Lowe stated, “I enjoy being here in Florida to learn from these coaches. Playing here will help me improve.”


In other news, the big club released 1B/DH Ettienne LaFitte on November 4th. LaFitte has now decided to retire from the BBA after a 14 year career.

LaFitte was drafted in the 1st round (7th overall) of the 2027 BBA Draft by the Montreal Blazers out of the Office Depot Erasers. He immediately made an impact in the SNL ( R ) winning the Player of the Week Award and was selected an All Star in the Spike Nolan League All Star Game.

He works his way up the minors and became the #1 prospect in the BBA in 2030. He made the big league club that season and was Rookie of the Year in the BBA. He had 202 hits with 25 of them doubles, 6 triples and 31 homers. He drove in 98 runs, scored 98 runs and stole 39 bases. He slashed .318/.367/.523 in a 4.2 WAR season.

LaFitte played in Montreal through the 2037 season. He was traded to the Calgary Pioneers in exchange for Rupert Grant, Jose Dyola and Jorge Moreno.

LaFitte played the 3038 and ’39 seasons in Calgary slashing .276/.348/.497 and accumulating a total of 4.7 WAR. He became a free agent after the 2039 season and signed a contract with the Hawaii Tropics for 6 years worth $59,000,000.

LaFitte played well 2040 and ’41 but saw declines in playing time and talent after the debut of
Ernest McBride for Hawaii.

He finishes his career with 2379 hits, 473 homers, 1430 RBI, 1435 runs, 680 stolen bases and slashed .299/.365/.529 for his career. He amassed a 43.8 career WAR. He is 10th in career avg, 2nd in slugging, 5th in OPS, 7th in games, 7th in at bats, 4th in runs, 7th in hits, 3rd in total bases, 8th in singles, 2nd in homers, 3rd in RBI, 1st in stolen bases, 3rd in caught stealing, 4th in walks and 3rd in strikeouts for the Blazers.

LaFitte’s peak years were really good. He fell off a cliff after ‘42, though.

Going to be an interesting HOF case, my thought is that he might not have stuck around long enough to pile up some compiling numbers (he was basically cooked after his age 33 season, which is 12 years).
