The Tropic News 2043.25
The Hawaii Tropics host the Chicago Black Sox for a three game series at Diamond Head.
Game 1- The Chicago Black Sox pound out 20 hits and score 11 runs to start the series with the Tropics with a win.
Tropics SP Stephen Taub was hammered in 3 innings. He allowed 6 runs on 9 hits, no walks and struck out just 1 batter.
2B Jack “Junkyard” Nichols was 2 for 4 with a 2 run homer.
Chicago wins 11-3.
Game 2- The Tropics score 2 in the seventh and 1 in the eighth to tie the game at 9-9. Then Hawaii gets a 2 run homer off the bat of pinch hitter Jose Camacho in the bottom of the tenth to take the second game of the series.
SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani struggled through 4 1/3 innings giving up 6 earned runs on 8 hits and no walks. He struck out 4 batters but also threw 3 gopher balls.
RP Norm McConnell pitched a scoreless tenth to get the win in extras.
RF Mike Campbell was 3 for 4 with a 2 run homer, a double, 2 runs and 5 RBI. Campbell now has 31 homers and 102 RBI on the season.
3B Gary Allen continues his good hitting going 2 for 4 with a double, a walk, 2 runs and 2 RBI.
Hawaii wins 11-9.
Game 3- Hawaii starter Jesus Gonzalez keeps the Chicago Offense under control as the Tropics win the series 2-1. Gonzalez went 6 1/3 innings and allowed just 1 run on 6 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 8 batters. He improves to 13-8 on the season with a 4.79 ERA.
1B Manuel Aguilar, Jr. was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a homer. He scored a run and drove in 3.
DH Ernest McBride was 2 for 3 with his 46th homer of the season. He scored 3 runs and drove in 1.
Hawaii wins 5-1.
The Trops travel to Des Moines for a three game series with the Kernels at Edward Murphy Memorial Stadium.
Game 1- Hawaii scores 3 runs in the top of the ninth to take a 9-6 lead but Trops Closer Norm McConnell is beaten, McConnell allowed 4 runs on 3 hits and a walk in just 2/3 of an inning. He blew his 8th save and lost his 6th game of the season.
SP Alaric Wullenweber struggled on this start allowing 6 runs on 6 hits, a walk and 7 strike outs in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
Ernest McBride had a big game going 3 for 4 with a single, triple and a homer. He scored 3 runs, drove in 4 and stole a base.
Des Moines wins 10-9.
Game 2- Hawaii SP Zak Johnson takes care of business as the Tropics roast the Kernels. Johnson goes 8 innings giving up just 1 unearned run on 3 hits and a walk. He struck out 8 batters and evens his record at 10-10.
The Tropics offense hit 4 homers off of Kernels pitching. Fernando Rodriguez played 2B and was 2 for 5 with a 2 run homer. McBride was 2 for 4 with a 3 run homer. Mike Campbell was 2 for 4 with a solo homer. Finally, CF Ronnie Hubbard was 2 for 5 wit a 2 run homer.
Hawaii wins 11-2.
Game 3- The Kernels prevail in the rubber game in a pitching duel. The Tropics use a bullpen day and allow 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. They struck out 3 batters.
Mike Campbell drove in the only Hawaii run with a solo homer in the first inning.
Des Moines wins 3-1 and wins the series 2-1.
