The Tropics return to Diamond Head for a four game series against the Vancouver Mounties.


Game 1- The Tropics rudely greet the visiting Mounties pounding out 11 runs on 12 hits, 8 of which are homers, for a series opening win. DH Ernest McBride led the way for the Tropics going 4 for 4 with 2 double and 2 homers. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. LF Bastiao Fardos also had a big power day, going 2 for 4 with 2 homers, 3 runs, 3 RBI and a walk. Also adding some power was RF Mike Campbell. Campbell was 2 for 3 with 2 homers, 3 runs, 3 RBI and a walk.

CF Ronnie Hubbard added a homer and was 2 for 4 with 2 runs and an RBI.

Fernando Rodriguez added a homer in a pinch hit at bat.

SP Jesus Gonzalez allowed just 2 unearned runs on 3 hits and a walk. He struck out 7 batters in 7 innings of work for his 9th win of the season.


Hawaii wins 11-2.


Game 2- This game turned into a shoot out as the Tropics jump out to a 6-0 lead but lose that lead and the game. Both teams pounded out 18 hits and committed an error. The Tropics hit 5 more homers to add to the 8 hit in Game 1. Mike Campbell was 3 for 4 with a homer, 2 runs, 3 RBI and a walk. 1B Manuel Aguilar, Jr. blasted 2 homers in 4 at bats scoring 2 runs and driving in 4.

2B Jack “Junkyard” Nichols (2 for 3) and 3B Gary Allen (3 for 6) both homered.

SP Alaric Wullenweber put up a stinker. He gave up 6 runs on 9 hits and struck out just 2 batters.


Vancouver wins 12-11.


Game 3- The Vancouver Mounties Starter Lando Klomp allowed no hits through 8 innings but was tagged for a hit and a run in the top of the ninth. The Mounties allowed another hit and a run but held on for the win.

SP Zak Johnson had a great effort but was just out pitched by Klomp. Johnson went 7 2/3 innings, gave up 3 runs on 5 hits, 2 walks and 2 Ks.

Bastiao Fardos was 1 for 4 with a 2 run homer in the ninth.


Vancouver wins 3-2.


Game 4- The Mounties score 4 runs in extras to upend the Tropics and win the series 3-1.

The Tropics wasted a rare good start from SP Luis Torres. Torres pitched 7 innings, allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4 batters. Mike Campbell was 2 for 5 with a homer.


Vancouver wins 7-3.



The Tropics play a three game series with the Sacramento Mad Popes at Diamond Head.


Game 1-Tropics SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani continues to be a stopper. He pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 5 batters and is now 9-5 on the season with a 3.84 ERA.

LF Bastiao Fardos was 1 for 3 with a run, an RBI and a walk.

DH Ernest McBride was 1 for 3 with an RBI.


Hawaii wins 3-1.


Game 2- Hawaii attempted a comeback but fell short as the Mad Popes even the series.

3B Gary Allen hits 2 homers in 4 at bats. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2.

Tropics Starter Jesus Gonzalez had his usual Jekyll and Hyde outing. He pitched 4 2/3 innings surrendering 5 runs on 8 hits, 3 walks and struck out 5. He falls to 9-7 with a 5.04 ERA.


Sacramento wins 6-4.


Game 3- The Mad Popes score 4 in the top of the ninth to take the rubber game and win the series 2-1. Alaric Wullenweber had his second bad start in a row going just 5 1/3 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 7 hits and a walk. He struck out 8 batters and threw 101 pitches.

CF Ronnie Hubbard was 1 for 4 with a solo homer.

C Steffen Peterson was 1 for 3 with a solo homer.


Sacramento wins 8-4.
