The Tropics finish their road trip with a three game series in Vancouver against the Mounties at the Northwoods Outpost.


Game 1- The Tropics and Mounties exchanged punches but in the end Vancouver prevails over Hawaii to open the series. Hawaii SP Zak Johnson looked good through the first two innings but after that he gave up 7 runs in 1 2/3 innings and sent to the showers early. RP Maxime Manceau settled things down and allowed Hawaii to crawl back into it with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless ball.

LF Bastiao Fardos remains hot, going 2 for 4 with a solo homer.

RF Mike Campbell was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, a run and an RBI.


Vancouver wins 10-7.


Game 2- Bastiao Fardos was 4 for 4 with another homer and SP Stephen Taub gave up 3 run on 3 hits over 6 2/3 innings as the Tropics take the second game.

DH Ernest McBride was 3 for 5 with a homer, 2 doubles, a run and 2 RBI.

3B Gary Allen was 3 for 4 with a homer, a run and an RBI.

CF Ronnie Hubbard was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored.

Hawaii wins 9-4.



Game 3- Mounties SP Lando Klomp shut down the Tropics in the rubber game. Klomp allowed just 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 6 batters and evens his record at 3-3.

Gary Allen was 2 for 2 with a walk, triple and scored the only run.

C Ron Shiplack was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

SP Jesus Gonzalez went 6 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits, 2 walks and 8 Ks. He falls to 3-2 this season.


Vancouver wins 7-1 and wins the series.



The Tropics return home to start a seven game home stand beginning with a three game series with the Seattle Storm at Diamond Head.


Game 1- SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani allowed 2 runs on 6 hits over 7 2/3 innings and Ron Shiplack was 3 for 4 with a homer, double, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI to lead the Tropics to a victory.

LF Jose Camacho was 2 for 3 with a homer, a run and 2 RBI.

DH Ettienne LaFitte received some playing time due to Manuel Aguilar, Jr.’s suspension. LaFitte was 1 for 4 with a double, 2 runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base.

Bastiao Fardos was 2 for 4 playing RF to give Mike Campbell a day off. Fardos doubled, scored a run, drove in a run and stole a base.


Hawaii wins 8-3.


Game 2- SP Alaric Wullenweber and 2 relievers allow the Seattle offense just a run while the Hawaii offense scores on 2 solo homers. Mike Campbell and Jose Camacho’s solo homers were the difference on offense. On defense, Ronnie Hubbard threw out a man at the plate to complete a double play and keep the Tropics ahead.

Wullenweber went 6 2/3 innings allowing 7 hits, a run, no walks and 7 Ks.

RP Douglas Wils went 1 1/3 innings and struck out 2.

RP Norm McConnell pitched the ninth and earned his 10th save of the season.


Hawaii wins 2-1.


Game 3- Seattle avoids the sweep as they upend the Tropics in the 11th.

Ron Shiplack was 2 for 3 with a double and a run.

Ernest McBride was 2 for 3 with his 17th homer, 2 walks, a run and 2 RBI.

Zak Johnson allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, no walks and struck out 6 batters. He was not involved the decision.


Seattle wins 5-4.
