The Hawaii Tropics head to Portland for their first series versus the Lumberjacks. The Pacific Division rivals will play a four game series at The Trail in Multnomah.


Game 1- The Tropics Offense again provides no run support for Starter Alaric Wullenweber as Hawaii falls in the opener. Wullenweber goes 6 innings, allows 3 runs on 6 hits, no walks and strikes out 3. He falls to 0-3 on the season with a 3.43 ERA.

DH Ernest McBride was 1 for 2 and drove in the sole run for Hawaii.

2B Jack “Junkyard” Nichols was 1 for 3. Nichols doubled and was driven in by McBride.


Portland wins 3-1.


Game 2- SP Zak Johnson has a disastrous second inning against the Lumberjacks but he persevered and picked up his first win of the season. Johnson went 6 innings, allowed just the 4 runs, allowed 6 hits and walked no one while striking out just 1 batter.

Stephen Taub came on in relief and gave up 3 hits over 2 innings and struck out 1.

Norm McConnell woke a clean ninth for his 4th save of the season.

The defense turned three double plays behind their pitchers stifling any comeback attempts.

The offense had 5 doubles, led by McBride with two.

McBride was 5 for 5 with three RBI and a run scored. He is hitting .432 with 4 homers and 20 RBI so far this season.

LF Bastiao Fardos was 3 for 5. He singled twice and doubled, drove in two runs and scored a run.

Nichols was 1 for 3. He doubled, walked twice, drove in two runs and scored a run.


Hawaii wins 8-4.


Game 3- The Tropics fall behind early 2-0 but respond with 3 in the second and 1 in the fourth. Hawaii also received good relief pitching from Maxime Manceau. Manceau pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowed one unearned run on two hits and struck out two batters.

3B Gary Allen was 3 for 4. Allen singled twice and homered, scored two runs and drove in three.

Fardos and McBride added solo homers for the Tropics.


Hawaii wins 7-4.


Game 4- With Hawaii leading 6-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Norm McConnell gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and a walk. The big hit was a three run walk off by Manuel Martinez[/url.

SP [url=https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 36177.html]Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani
struggled through 3 2/3 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 4 hits, walked 4 and struck out 5. Nicko said, “I was all over the place out there. I couldn’t get a good grip on the ball.”

1B Manuel Aguilar, Jr. was 4 for 5. Aguilar singled twice, doubled and homered.

McBride was 1 for 4 with another solo homer.


Portland wins 7-6. The Tropics and Lumberjacks split the four game series.



Tropics return home from the short road trip for a three game series versus the Yellow Springs Nine at Diamond Head.



Game 1- Alaric Wullenweber earned his first win of the 2043 BBA Season pitching a nice game against the Nine. Big Al went 6 1/3 innings, allowed just 1 run on 4 hits and walked 1. He struck out 10 batters and lowered his ERA to 2.96.

Maxime Manceau pitched well again going 2 1/3 innings and giving up just 2 hits.

C Ron Shiplack made an impact on this game going 3 for 4, two singles, a double, two RBI and a run scored.

Hawaii wins 7-1.


Game 2- Zak Johnson pitched 7 strong innings and the Tropics score a run in the bottom of the eighth to take a 4-3 lead. McConnell pitches the ninth and gives up just one hit to earn his 5th save.

Johnson allowed 3 runs on 8 hits and a couple of walks while striking out 5 batters.

Ron Shiplack was 1 for 4. He hit a 2 run homer in the second inning.


Hawaii wins 4-3.


Game 3- The Tropics use eighth inning heroics for the second time in this series to take the win. Down 2-1, RF Mike Campbell ripped a two run single to put Hawaii on top 3-2. McConnell came on for the save. He struck out one and gave up a hit in earning his 6th save of the season.

Campbell was 2 for 4 with a single, triple, 2 RBI and a run scored.

Lost isn all the excitement as the performance of SP Jesus Gonzalez. Gonzalez pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 7.


Hawaii wins 3-2 and sweeps the series.

I’ll take splits right now. Split with Hawaii and Vancouver in 4 game sets this month.
