The Tropic News 2043.3
The Hawaii Tropics begin the 2043 BBA Campaign on the road versus Pacific Division rival San Fernando Bears for a three game series at Chico’s Bail Bonds Field.
Game 1- Tropics SP Alaric Wullenweber got the nod once again as the Tropics Opening Day Starter. Wullenweber pitched 6 1/3 innings, gave up 3 runs on 7 hits, walked 1 and struck out 11 batters. He was out pitched by rookie SP Felipe Guevara. Guevara pitched 6 innings, giving up just 3 hits, walked 1 and struck out 10 batters. He earned his first BBA win.
The Tropics Offense could get nothing going until late in the game. They scored 2 in the eighth and 2 in the ninth to give the Bears a scare before falling.
LF Jose Camacho was 2 for 5. He doubled, singled and drove in a run.
DH Ernest McBride was also 2 for 5. He had two singles and drove in two runs.
2B Jack “Junkyard” Nichols was 1 for 3. He singled and scored twice.
San Fernando wins 5-4.
Game 2- The Bears trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth and scored two runs off of Tropics SP Zak Johnson , The Bears scored two more off of Johnson in the sixth and cruised to their second win of the season.
Johnson went 5 innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits, walking zero and striking out 2. He was hurt by the long ball, giving up 3.
RF Mike Campbell was 1 for 4. He crushed a first inning, one out homer.
C Ron Shiplack was 2 for 4. He singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in a run.
2B Nichols was 2 for 4. He singed, doubles and scored a run.

Game 3- The San Fernando Bears hit 5 homers but the Hawaii Tropics dodge that bullet as DH Ernest McBride (4 for 6, run, 4 RBI) and RF Mike Campbell (2 for 6, HR, run, 4 RBI) save the day. Pitching for both teams was non existent as both starters were rocked for a combined 11 runs in 4 1/3 innings.
SS Fernando Rodriguez made a statement going 3 for 4. He stroked two doubles, a single, walked two times, stole a base, scored three runs and drove in a run.
Ron Shiplack was 2 for 5 with a run scored.
Nichols was 1 for 4 with a single, walk and three runs scored.
Hawaii wins 15-12.
